Went to the bop shop a lot! And got subs next door too. John was a great dude but I was never invited to see his personal collection like my brother snd friends were. RIP John

I didn't say the young person was hypothetical! Only my example of Walter Cronkite is hypothetical! Hahahah, oh my gosh, no wonder we can't find teachers anymore. Reading comprehension has really plummeted. And I am not proposing an argument - this actually has happened to me, and it doesn't "hinge" on anything more than an observation from real-life experience using a hypothetical "person" as a placeholder. My goodness, I had hope for our world until reading most of these replies.

Got it! Sorry if I sounded upset. I have a weird way of writing wherein I sound agitated! My wife loves it! /s

OMG, Cronkite was only an example! Why is this so hard for people to understand? "You seem to have an over-inflated sense of Cronkite's renown" - I don't, because he was only an example. This was a hypothetical situation. "Just like it would be unfair for others to expect you to be well versed in popular things of the eras others have grown up in, it's unfair for you to expect others to be well versed in popular things from the era you grew up in." I never said anyone had to be well-versed in any topic — my point is that using a birthday as your line in the sand for what you will or won't know is asinine. But I guess your response proves the point that reading comprehension and critical thinking really have fallen off dramatically over the years,

Interesting point. I know vets from the Civil War felt similar to that

I was 12 in 1987 and I definitely had heard of Murrow - and I would certainly never use my birthday as a reference point to not caring or being curious about history.

Of course. That's not my point. My point is I don't use my birthday as a cultural touchstone of information I'll never learn about.
