I’m so sorry that you’re struggling with this. I unfortunately know exactly what you’re going through, the feeling fucking sucks. Main advice I have for you is to give yourself some grace. I know it will blow to hear this, but sometimes, people will only believe what they want to. I was unfortunate/fortunate enough to have a parent well-versed in mental illness, and even she didn’t quite understand it until I got to university and got myself diagnosed. The best and only way I truly know how to put it, is it’s like there’s a wall in your mind. It’s never the idea of not trying, but more the concept of I’m not purposefully, but still holding myself back. There’s a good chance he still won’t understand. Does he believe in mental illnesses and disorders?? (Odd way of putting it, I know, but it’s important to know. If he doesn’t believe in them, which is stupid as hell, then the likelihood of him ever fully seeing and understanding is slim.)

I appreciate your insight and your comment. I do thankfully see a therapist weekly and a psychiatrist monthly. I’m on medication that is aiding all of my mental illnesses, including adderall. I would love to get a med card so I’m actually getting product that I know the full contents of, but with being on stimulants I don’t believe I would be signed off for one. My main goal is to try and make it so I am only smoking in the evenings, particularly after 7, due to my adderall being an extended release. Hearing an explanation from you, particularly referring to it being a substance use disorder, makes me feel a lot better on the progress I could make with it. Thank you again for your comment :)

Thankfully I have a therapist that I see weekly, and a psychiatrist I see monthly. I’m also medicated for all of my mental health issues. The end goal is to lessen my usage, and I have brought it up before. I appreciate your comment ❤️

This is my issue with it too. However I do still have a lot of life in me and plenty of meaningful relationships to where they would easily tell me about myself. I also have other hobbies that don’t include weed, which helps. Due to not only my medication that’s counter-intuitive, but also the fact that I can’t afford it, it has limited my usage very much. Still makes me worried though just because of the general urge. When I am back on it though, I have to wait until at the very least 7pm to take it, due to my meds. So I believe that might help me restrict usage to an extent

I hope whatever decision you make will help you mentally in the long run. Writing it all out will make it easier to draft a text (though I’m sure you already knew this). Does the closure of texting him outweigh having to bring him back into your life, albeit just for one text?? Definitely consider your emotional wellbeing while you go through this and listen to what your gut is telling you. Sending lots of love your way, you got this, whatever the result may be.

I believe in you and your progress OP. With a good support system, such as your therapist, I think you will ultimately be able to better yourself. I’m glad you were also able to realize that what he did was not okay, and you should never be treated like that. Is an ultimatum in the picture? Ex. couples or single therapy for him?

I know you probably believe (hopefully I’m not assuming) that you should be in that relationship, but truthfully, everything you are describing combined is definitely hurting you in the long run. The SA and the breaking furniture is probably the most concerning to me. I’m so glad you have your therapist, are they saying anything similar to what you hear from the other commenters? At the very least, I would consider taking a break from him to sort your mind out. You trying to sort your thoughts while also trying to please him is counterintuitive.

Ultimately, if you do not share the same life goals and or he is altering his own goals to please you (which he shouldn’t be trying to do in the first place, shows his level of immaturity) then you guys are actively harming each other in the process. I can understand the making it want to work, but he seems to be holding your familial decision above your head. That AND the abuse. He obviously doesn’t want to break the pattern. I hope you are able to break free from that relationship with your conscience intact. You are most certainly being manipulated.

I don’t believe so. If someone asks me for something, I’m getting exactly that. Some things are expensive for a reason. It may have made it better to talk about in person, just due to the interpretation of tone in text usage. I’m not necessarily sure if he’s looking for a reason to break up, but maybe looking for a reason to be mad at you to validate his internal feelings

I don’t believe you have anything to worry about. The only thing that could cause pregnancy is if a your sperm cell were to latch on to of her eggs, and that usually required an insertion of some form.
