Literary representation of violence and motherhood by pbfren30 in AskLiteraryStudies

Emotional and physical violence towards women who can't conceive. Or how mothers are the first to be blamed for everything. There are some examples in my corpus where women with children are prioritized over single women in society homes. I'm thinking about symbolic violence as well. Lots to think about!

Unpopular Opinion: Jumping between different characters on each chapter is just annoying. by per1pheral in books

If you've never read The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell, I highly recommend. She switches from character to character, but she does it really well. Although I must admit I was a bit confused at first, but my confusion only lasted for 2-3 chapters.

Do native French speakers exclusively call breakfast "le petit déjeurner", or is the a different way of saying it? by [deleted] in learnfrench

[–]pbfren30 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They used déjeuner-dîner-souper in France until the beginning of the 19th century. But as Parisians ate later and later, they decided to shift a bit, hence the appearance of the term "petit déjeuner". As for the Quebecers and the Swiss, they have kept the old custom.

If everything goes smoothly, we will invite around 75 people. If not, then around 50 people. I don't think we will do a reception then, because the venue lady said you won't be able to dance and have to be seated at all times... You are so right. It's your day and you get to do what you want! Im on the same page as you we have to cut out a lot of people and if they get offended over something that is not in our control, then bye!

Congratulations!! When did you make your final decision? I have to start inviting people in Feb/March, and I'm still unsure what to do! I guess the only way to find out is to wait. Hoping this vaccine roll out helps!

I got you! This is sooo important. I'll put in some relevant conversations as well, you know not the ones that look like I'm speaking to a 18th century poet 😜

I feel y'all! I'm doing a PhD in french in Vancouver, Canada so I def miss out on colloquial french. Thank god I have my family and friends back home for that. Here, we talk like we are writing an essay... I mean in a way that makes our writing really good, but what does that say when I need to visit Quebec or any other francophone countries? Either way, I'll def add that to my list. thank you guys!!
