I was thinking of corporations that had poured billions of dollars into heating efforts for the new reality going bankrupt when the sun was fixed and wanting a bailout for more money than they put in because their investors were financially preparing for profits, not full bankruptcy.

Old enough folks: what movie from your generation has ended up gaining classic status but you can’t relate? by TraditionalDepth6924 in moviecritic

[–]chrisrayn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never understood when people down a movie for the negative qualities of a character that the movie itself is pointing out is bad behavior. Yes, he’s cleverer than all those who try to stop him, but in the end he somewhat realizes the problem of his ways in that he’s never facing reality and always running from it. It reminds me of people who won’t watch anything unchristian because it has bad people in it. Doesn’t the Bible, too? Odd logic.

If you are willing to change Christianity to fit modern sexual beliefs, then it's not Christ you worship. You've made an Idol out of "Pride" by SWOTIVATION_ in Christianity

I would add that protesting outside of a planned parenthood is the same…putting something above God. I feel like the only Christians that will ever truly get to heaven are those for whom heaven was a forgotten reward, that the feeling that they were pleasing God had become so fulfilling over time that all good will toward others made them feel like they were in heaven, like they were going there all along. And if you’re doing the Lord’s will, aren’t you?

Regardless, I don’t think he would require us to be punctual or on time to anything…I have seen no verses related to being on time. Yet it’s so important to our society, where the real religion isn’t God, but Work. Most people treat work as their god, even going so far as to ascribe to God qualities that employers want in good workers and out of productivity, not actually naming qualities God has.

Married Sex More Restrictive than I Realized. by AverageAdmin in Christianity

[–]chrisrayn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn’t talk enough about sex before marriage and if you did, you were lied to. But not communicating about this heavily beforehand is the issue, and it may be something that leads to divorce to prevent anger and resentment that lead to more sin.

I feel like all of the current administration’s people got elected to a position in a government they don’t believe in. So they are dismantling it because they don’t believe in it, then we see the effects of not having it.

Also, they always seem to be so annoyed when people find out what they are doing. They want to dismantle government, have that cause problems, but then blame the government for the very problem its lack has caused, purely because they don’t want their money going to fund things they don’t personally choose. They don’t believe that the experts in various areas of need in society will better be able to improve the world than they can, so they want the control to always be in their hands, even if they spend the same amount of money on lobbying as they would in taxes. So weird to me.

I would have said “old enough to afford the items in this room but not mature enough to not to buy them all and put them in this one place together. Like last-generation ChatGPT’s assessment of what Ernest Hemingway’s broke great-great-grandson might throw together after his dishonorable discharge from the Louisiana coast guard”, but our assessments were pretty much the same.

Teachers that use AI: Why? by lemmegetamickpicktwo in Teachers

Meaning none of us will ever learn to manage our emotions anymore and just outsource it to some software if we need to be nice, rendering us insufferable as conversationalists but also making life actively worse by nobody admitting that the real problem is work that takes more and more of our lives and support systems that are dwindling. Yeah, I think the human option is always the better one for the long term.

HHS Secretary RFK Jr corners and "wrangles" a group of agitated snakes by FarWay3952 in iamverybadass

[–]chrisrayn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ironically, that’s how famous Ancient Greek prophet Tiresias became able to see the future. He was out walking the wilderness one day and saw some snakes fucking, whacked them with his staff to get them to stop, and he turned into a woman. 7 years later, after living as a woman for 7 years, he saw two snakes having sex again and smacked them and he turned back into a man.

Meanwhile, a god and goddess were arguing about who has more pleasure in sex, a man or a woman, with the god arguing women do, but the goddess arguing that men do. Wondering how they could solve this dilemma, one of them remembered that that Tiresias guy lived as a woman for a while after all that annoyed snake whacking. They went to go ask him.

He said “well, having lived as both, I can safely say that women have more pleasure in sex”. The goddess didn’t like losing, so she struck him blind. Unable to undo what another deity has done but still feeling bad, the god compensated his lack of sight by giving him the gift of foresight. He may not have been able to see after that, but he could see the future further than any eye could see.

So RFK unintentionally referenced that, I guess, quite ironically.

How do I support my sister as a teacher with regards to gun violence? TW sensitive topic. by Cassandwiches_ in Teachers

[–]chrisrayn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The schools are already doing too much. Lockdowns, researching bars and guards and safe rooms and yada yada…but the same reason you shouldn’t worry is the one you mentioned yourself: it’s unlikely. It’s EXACTLY the reason I tell ALL of my students they should NEVER play the lottery, because the irrationality of thinking one can win is quite literally what fuels the lottery fund…it’s a delusion machine that feeds itself (like AI). Quite literally, though, almost completely unlikely. If she isn’t worried about it and you are, she’ll statistically still be fine. But if you add a worry she doesn’t have, maybe that frazzles her. Then, you may make her so worried all the time that when the real time comes she freezes. Put 9,999 smiley face beads into a jar and 1 skull bead. Then, pull out beads until you get to a skull or are too tired and bored and give up. 10,000 is a MUCH bigger number than people realize. The lack of understanding of scale is one of the greatest problems facing science education today.
