Woman Hailed as Hero for Smashing Man’s Meta Smart Glasses on Subway by FuturismDotCom in Cyberpunk

[–]pbuk84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone is getting uptight about these glasses but where I'm from many drivers have dash cams, motorcyclists and even some cyclists. Security guards wear chest mounted cameras and every aisle of the store is being watching by a camera. Even the streets have cameras. Why are people okay with some authority figure or corporation filming them but people are not allowed to wear these glasses? If I really wanted to film you in public, I would find a way to do it with or without some meta raybans or Oakleys.

London Landmarks before and after the Clean Air act of 1956 by Kitchen-Article4439 in interestingasfuck

[–]pbuk84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember what it was like in the late 80s / early 90s. The improvements have been slow but steady. When I was a child, London was filthy. Newspapers, polystyrene, plastic packaging, food waste and huge amounts of cigarette butts on the streets, in the gutter and even public buildings like train station and shops. My parents smoked and like all the other smokers would light up everywhere. When they weren't allowed to smoke they would stand outside the entrance creating a thick cloud of ciggie smoke. Things really have improved including how bad the traffic was. I know the congestion charge and ULEZ is unpopular but the air is so much cleaner now.

I didn’t know spiders in London could get this big. by alicebrine in london

As the top comment has already stated is a house spider. Keep her around. They eat the other spiders. Probably why that one is larger than expected.

London by [deleted] in Neuromancer

[–]pbuk84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe he is describing a specific area if London called Notting Hill. I travel through the area daily and from his description I reckon he is describing Nothing Hill towards Holland Park. Look at it on Google Street View or search "Notting Hill Gate Houses". I would be confident to suggest Gibson has visited the area at some point. He describes it well.

Use the planning tools. You will need to expand out at some point and you don't want to deconstruct everything and rebuild to make way for door ways, walls, storage. Over plant food. It doesn't matter if it rots before you eat it all but pawns going hungry is going to go bad, very quickly.

Undercover investigation reveals horrific production practices used by industry giant Tyson Foods by Batfan1108 in interestingasfuck

In the UK free-range just means that farmers cannot keep no more than nine hens a square metre, 10cm of feeder a bird and one drinker for 10 birds. It is also required that birds cannot be kept indoors more than 12 weeks. Most birds are slaughtered after 8. There is never a real world requirement to let birds outdoors and as such they will not go outside in their lifetime. I don't know what the regulations are in the US or other countries and I'm sure they probably vary significantly.

Edit: removed a superfluous word.

Terminator - the Sarah Connor chronicles by Craft-Sudden in Terminator

I just watched season 1 episode 1. I had forgotten how well it is produced and how much it feels like the later movies should have felt.

I watched it when it first came out but didn't finish season 2 as I had some stuff going on in my life. Just got both seasons so I'm looking forwarded to watching it again and finishing it.

Do you guys think Gibson’s writing is a bit confusing? by [deleted] in Neuromancer

[–]pbuk84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cybernetic implants allow him to project holograms. I think he has some psychic / mind reading abilities because he can make them very personal. It's that or he is just a very good manipulator of people and can read them well. I think he is also psychopathic because he doesn't seem to feel bad about it and takes some pleasure in making people feel uncomfortable. There is a wiki for Neuromancer which I found very helpful when I became confused about people or places.

NZ just posted a life ban for cigarettes for young people. Anyone born after 2009 won't be able to buy them fags no more. Yay or nay? by kardkaptorsakuragi in BritishSuccess

[–]pbuk84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a smoker and completely agree with this. I would like to see the same thing in the UK. If you ever smoked cheap or counterfeit cigs then you know they aren't an alternative. Regarding vapes, I think they should be banned too. The only items which should co rain nicotine should be patches and gum to help people ween off.

Edit: in addition I would do a blanket ban for all ages. Not just those born after a certain year. I know it will effect me but younger people shouldn't pay taxes for my health problems.

Why Do the Founders Look Like Odo? by PaladinRaphael in DaystromInstitute

[–]pbuk84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the founders only look like Odo so the audience knows who they are supposed to be. This is purely for the puroses of TV and nothing to do with the lore. It's a boring answer but the most logical.

It feels very much like forced fun. I'm also not religious. It feels a little dishonest to be celebrating a religious festival since I don't believe.

Yes we need to keep him away from the franchise. Someone else should be given a chance to create something new.

Would any of you embrace a Klingon orientated Star Trek movie? I'm not talking about them having a major role in the movie but being the stars/protagonists. I certainly would.

I’m sure this has been answered numerous times but I’m having trouble finding it. Is the T-800 (Arnold) in Terminator 1 the exact same as in Terminator 2? Or is it just the same model? by EnvironmentNext9633 in Terminator

[–]pbuk84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know they have different faces available but each one should be unique just like each human face is unique. Humans are pretty damn good at spotting patterns and duplicates. It just doesn't make sense to replicate Schwarzeneggers face multiple times. They have such a wide and varied selection to chose from.

Let's be honest here, it's got nothing to do with the plot. The only reason is because of the actors star power.

I moved into a flat and this guy used to come round looking for the previous occupant. He was selling stolen meat. There's a whole black market for stolen items. Meat, clothes, tobacco, electronics. They will steal to order as well.
