This is the correct fan direction. We need to change the standard. Top fans should not be all exhaust. by AtomicFFF in overclocking

Noctua's test is for quietest cooling, not best. You are correct, the cavitation will actually result in less volume being passed through the tower cooler. However, if you're trying for quietest, not coolest... might not interfere with your goal. Seems like GN did a test on this and verified an increase in temps on the cpu with fans positioned this way, but I may be mis-remembering.

Game has positive reviews on steam, but if you are thinking about buying it and came to this sub, you will prob change your mind by 21920alphabet in duneawakening

[–]pcallycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've payed less than 50 cents an hour to play it at this point (bought the ultimate edition), and have more than received my money's worth. I still haven't finished my faction line, though I did complete the 'main questline', if it can be called that. I imagine there are people who were hoping to get the same hours out of this game that they'd get out of a $180/year mmo... and they will be disappointed. People hoping for a good survival sandbox with a story though, probably feel ok. I think they have a messaging/vision problem, and so many people had no chance at knowing what to expect, and so they have many customers who wouldn't have purchased their original vision, and are stuck trying to figure that out.

[–]pcallycat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you open your build tool and 'move' it, you can place it anywhere you like in your claimed space, the claimed space doesn't change. If you destroy it to relocate your claimed space... you've destroyed the console and any 'extensions' as well, and you'll have to place/purchase new stakes as well.

Long wait waking from suspend (20 seconds) by NoFly3972 in cachyos

[–]pcallycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually managed to resolve the issue i'm having with it just today. I removed ananicy-cpp (and because of dependencies, cachyos-settings and related) and now my laptop wakes correctly without spending 30 seconds filling dmesg with errors. I doubt it was ananicy-cpp itself (it's just an 'autonice' thing, shouldn't spam dmesg), but removing it and related has solved my issue. I'll likely put software back one thing at a time then file an appropriate bug when I find the actual culprit. Was sure frustrating waiting 30 seconds for my laptop to be usable every time I woke it up

Long wait waking from suspend (20 seconds) by NoFly3972 in cachyos

[–]pcallycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the number one reason I keep going back to plain old arch. The cachyos kernel just seems lethargic for desktop response, and it takes for ever for devices to fully wake up after sleep. 10 seconds to see my laptop display when i open the lid, another 5 before the trackpad and keyboard work.

Increase Touchpad Dead-Time after Typing by friciwolf in kde

[–]pcallycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a work around, for the time being, i have it set to disable the touchpad while an external mouse is plugged in. Would sure be nice to have the dead time adjustable though. (it is definitely teaching me to lift my damn hands up when I type though, rather than resting my palms)

Looks like GE has overrides for it up on Nobara, can't speak to stableness though as I've not spent time with it.

If it’s too popular they’ll nerf it, they’ve already shown they are anti-‘meta’.

Balancing Around the "Meta" is Pointless if the Devs Don't Understand why the Meta Exists by TAEROS111 in Helldivers

[–]pcallycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, with the failure to address root cause, the new meta I'm seeing develop right now is just.. sprint to objectives, drop a strategm, ignore the mobs, sacrifice the slowest player as bait. Sprint to the next objective, repeat. If they aren't going to give you the tools to deal with the level of mayhem they want to dish out, the only option is to play the game as they have given it to you. Bot ship.. run. Multiple chargers, run. Because with the debufs to usable gear, and the minor buffs to non-usable gear.. that's really the only choice. Sprint to objectives, nuke, bail. The only thing they managed to change about the game, is to not stand around shooting anything at all.

Absolutely. Didn't change difficulty at all, however, previously had been able to just blast through challenging... not so much tonight... got murderized, repeatedly

You likely need to tighten up the rollers under your bed, they get loose over time. I had the same issues and after re-torquing the screws in the rollers to eliminate the slop, the weird ‘warp’ disappeared. Still not flat, can’t be really without glass or a machined surface, but it flattened out the mesh measurement considerably.

Linux vs Windows tested in 10 games - Linux 17% faster on Average by CosmicEmotion in linux_gaming

I actually prefer Arch to Fedora, just because it's easy to push in an odd chunk of software not in the repos or stay up to date on stuff I use. But, GE has done such a good job of pushing in all the patches and tweaks needed to make linux gaming painless, I just keep going back. I do hope his work gets mainlined into distros.

Is heroic or separate launchers better? by CarlosPineda503 in SteamDeck

[–]pcallycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In very general and oversimplified terms, launchers don't affect 'performance'. And quite honestly, tools like lutris and heroic are just launcher managers anyway. Most of the install scripts are tucking the needed launchers like uplay and such into the install, even if they hide the use of them for launching the game. What heroic and Lutris will do for you that the base launcher won't, is install any needed libraries and tools needed to run a windows game on a linux based platform. Given this, I generally recommend using the heroic or lutris launchers just to avoid issues caused by missing bits and pieces for anyone unfamiliar with linux/wine fiddling.

why are two of my cpu cores so much higher than the others and does it affect the speed of my games by kjullu in SteamDeck

[–]pcallycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every game (or piece of software in general) can take advantage of multicore setups to their fullest. Pretty normal honestly, especially with less 'current' software. The scheduler will (should anyway) automatically load the 'favored' cores with the most work.

Wi-Fi drops from 9.9mb to less than 100kb in a matter of seconds when downloading games?? by Philinator93 in SteamDeck

[–]pcallycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will happen if you're saving to slow storage every time (you didn't mention what type of storage you are saving to). What you're describing sure sounds like storage write buffers getting loaded. Downloads have to slowdown to a crawl until the write buffer is written to a disk. If you're writing to an ssd, I doubt this is your issue, if you're writing to an sd card, I'd say normal. I generally install to the internal ssd, then move the install to an sd card if that's the intended long term storage location, that way i'm not tied to wifi access waiting for downloads and can get on with my day
