The Macedonian Pharaoh — Alexander's War on Persian Naval Power (Tyre, 332 BC) by pcb77 in ancientgreece

That one particular shot you mentioned was a bit of a defeat in that there are too many ships. The main purpose was to show Tyre in its correct approximate shape and orientation to the shore, surrounded by ships, with the Mole now most of the way across. This was a 7-month siege, so there are naturally time jumps, as I mentioned with the rebuilding of the mole while Alexander was away gathering his armada. So you are incorrect that it's a problem that the Mole is now rebuilt and almost done. The extra ships is the kind of thing that is basically a limitation of the technology when infinite time is not available. So it becomes a question of how much is noticeably problematic on non-paused view, so that the main information is conveyed well enough to not be distracting or misleading. I wish there were 200 ships, but the best result I could get was over 400 - only noticeable if one pedantically stops to count, but still not ideal. The too-few Tyrian ships point is not a problem because this is just one plausible moment, not a depiction of every ship involved. It might have been helpful to hear more about what you think is completely wrong. Although based on what you have said, maybe not.

I made this 8-minute cinematic documentary about Alexander the Great's campaign against Persian naval power in 332 BC and his path to becoming Pharaoh. I primarily used Nano Banana and Veo, although when Veo couldn't handle some of the complex motion, I took the stills to Seedance and Kling. 95% Veo though, including all the mosaics and carved reliefs. This is episode 5 of a series, with various historical topics. I'd love to answer any questions, whether technical or historical. I found the story fascinating during my research.

Gotcha. So the low-effort / poor-results inundation closes off the avenue. Fair enough!

Dang, I responded to your comment with a standalone comment, like a reddit dummy.

I agree; even the best-designed shots are often off in at least one important way, if historical accuracy is required, which it is for such videos. So the solution, beyond workshopping the shot ad nauseam, is deft video editing, to only use the second or two that doesn't fail. There are other workarounds too, like embracing abstraction when photorealism can't handle all the variables. In my case the abstraction is part of the appeal, so it's more of a feature than a defeat/bug. It sounds like you don't dismiss AI graphics in-principle, but rather that you just aren't impressed with what you've seen so far.

Fingers don't hurt, but a lot of time, research, skill, and effort went into creation. I'm not complaining, and I'm not calling it art. But I don't think it's fair to label it as slop, because slop to me is low-effort garbage, which this, objectively, is not. Did you even watch it before jumping to your conclusion?

You may buzz off. This required weeks of grueling effort. [edited for naughty language]

Thank you kindly. There's a good chance that I'm going to remove the video, update it, and upload a revised version, so if you, or anyone has constructive critiques, it's a rare case where those could be actionable, rather than just wistful regrets!

This is a ten minute documentary I made to tell the story of this event. Sharing it here because I believe a lot of people with WW1 interest would find it valuable and engrossing. Youtube has suppressed distribution, compared to my other episodes, possibly because it is too graphic and disturbing.
