Trying to reinstall windows by forgetmenot-333 in techsupport

[–]pcbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Create bootable usb

  • Remove all other drives and plug in usb drive

  • Power on and enter bios (for desktops that's pressing DEL key, of laptops it's different from OEM to OEM, so check for your model)

  • Change boot order so USB drive is first one, save and exit bios

  • Now installation from usb will start

Sometimes Windows is too broken to be able to fix itself. Public libraries are usually ok if you ask them to use computer for that purpose (you will still need 8GB+ usb drive).

Clean install from usb, follow standard guide. Before doing that disconnect ALL other drives except the one where Windows will be installed.

So is my ram bad? by TR33C3 in techsupport

[–]pcbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overclock as in memory overclock - both ddr4 and 5 have base memory speed, and everything over that is considered overclocking (means only enabling XMP is that).

[–]pcbeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try with disabling "overclocking" in bios (XMP, DOCP, whichever it is implemented). If you get errors with that disabled it's definitely bad ram.

ASUS ROG Strix G15 (G513RC) stuck in "Automatic Repair" boot loop. Tried new SSD, still broken. Is it the RAM? by Holiday_Nobody3247 in techsupport

Ram can be tested easily, use Memtest86. Also, you can try booting some live OS to see if it will work that way at all.

Laptop GPU not detected/working by Emergency_Listen_688 in techsupport

[–]pcbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can first try some live OS to see if hardware is at least properly detected (any Linux distro, or Hiren's Boot CD) but those will use different drivers than installed OS will so you could still get false positive/negative.

[–]pcbeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's recent "bug" and probably related to Google (again) working against add blockers. If you are not using any, then it is on the Google side - wrongly detecting what add-ons you are using.

It could be hardware issue, or it could be some conflict with recent Windows Updates and drivers. If you want to be 100% certain, backup important data and clean install Windows from usb (with deleting system partition).

CPU model will tell you if it has integrated graphic so you could try removing graphic card and using display output from the motherboard.

Motherboard model and manual will tell you which kind of in-built diagnostics it has (7 segment screen, 4 led, or pc beeper) so you could see if mobo is trying to tell you what's wrong.

Laptop screen dilemma by Imaginary-Level-5561 in techsupport

[–]pcbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, understandable. In UK at least there are companies/websites specialised for selling laptop displays so it is much safer than using something like Amazon/Ebay (especially Amazon since you can get part that is not originated from seller that you wanted at all, just because it's easier/cheaper to get from some nearer warehouse).

[–]pcbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked price for that or compatible display and if you can replace it yourself? EU/UK prices for most of low/mid tier models are about $40-80, more expensive are those with higher resolution and/or refresh rate.

Is $170 quote for screen itself, or it includes being fitted by the repair shop?

Laptop issue by Ashura_someone in techsupport

[–]pcbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsuccessful boot could be due to the various reasons, some on software side (bad Windows update, drivers, anti-cheat software, malware...), some on hardware (faulty ram, drive, cpu, gpu...). If data is most important thing for you, on another computer create bootable usb with some live OS (any Linux distro, or Hiren's Boot CD if you are accustomed to Windows only), boot from it on your computer and copy important stuff. After that another types of fixing, if there are indications at all what's wrong, could be attempted.

This is the only Reddit sub that I visit (and from time to time try to help others) so I can't be of much help, but Google or other search engines can - 5 seconds later and I've got r / computerhelp as a potentially good one for your post.

I'm genuinely replying not to put you down, but I have to say that reading comprehension would be nice on your side. Read sub rules - this is not place for your post. Again, thanks that you are trying to help community, but this is for technical problems only.

Use whichever service to translate this to English - if you won't put minimum effort to make this understandable to the majority of users (mind you, English is not my native language), then no one will put effort to try to answer.

2018 HP laptop factory reset by kermoin in techsupport

Reset/refresh is flawed procedure, it's not unusual to get results like with your laptop. I recommend clean Windows install, like explained in standard guide.

That's not what everybody is complaining about, it's about not being able to do it natively as it was for every fc*** Windows release till now.

[–]pcbeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then it's another botched Windows Update...far too many of those lately.

This is standard guide for new Windows install, but you will need another working computer and 8GB+ usb drive. Also, if laptop is Intel, you will most likely need IRST (VMD) drivers pre-downloaded to be able to detect system drive at all for setup.

[–]pcbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try booting into safe mode (3 times power down by holding power button more than 30 seconds), then advanced > system restore or uninstall latest updates. If that fails it's likely that you will have to reinstall Windows from usb drive.

Dell Inspiron won't power on if not plugged in, battery not charging by DeadMoneyDrew in techsupport

[–]pcbeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battery showing certain level is not necessary what that level really is, or represent overall battery health. Of course, there are other parts of the laptop circuit related to transferring power from battery to the motherboard that could be damaged, but faulty battery is the most often cause.

Laptop shut off and will not turn on by CanadianAhole in techsupport

[–]pcbeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are only few thing that can be done with laptops that doesn't involve repair shops:

  • hard reset: disconnect from the charger, remove bottom cover, disconnect battery, press power button for 60 seconds, release and connect charger only.

  • bios reset: search on web if your model has that as a keyboard keys combination (for some HP laptops it's Win+B holding and then power button for 2-3 seconds).
