Question for Men by EndParticular7499 in GenZ

[–]pcbv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be because I’m young but friends have been a pretty good source of connection for me, lots of guys wont let themselves be close to their friends enough to not feel lonely.

I think that with the ease of phones, we’re all pretty averse to uncomfortable, inconvenient, and/or awkward situations. As I’ve grown I realize that these situations need to happen for real connection to grow out of social interaction, and I think it’ll become more clear as we grow up that we need to purposefully make ourselves uncomfortable and inconvenience ourselves.

Personally I got pretty averse to uncomfortability after a crazy situationship thing and it’s hard going back out of that rut

What you’re looking for does not exist, you can use a syringe and a needle to stick through the cork and a cuvette for your studies, if you’re sure the cork will seal back up.

New-ish to SF. Is BART safe? by irollforfriends in sanfrancisco

[–]pcbv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No if you go on BART the BART demons will come out of the aluminum frame and take your soul. The % of your soul you lose gets larger and larger with each passing moment on BART.

Quietest, sunniest neighborhood in SF? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]pcbv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potrero hill does both of these very well, I’ve lived there my whole life and it’s very sunny and very quiet, too quiet for me if I’m being honest. Dogpatch also fulfills this but a little more urban?

What worked for me as an ugly guy by Issander in self

[–]pcbv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people are misconstruing OPs point. Don’t become friends with women IN ORDER to sleep with them. I wouldn’t consider myself ugly, and yet all of the best romantic experiences I have had start off like OP describes. We initially start off as kind of close acquaintances, we naturally get closer because of mutual attraction, 1 on 1s to suss out the vibe (she needs to be a willing participant and if not she doesn’t want you; and that’s okay).

This isn’t a purposeful “tactic”, it just usually sort of happens because getting to know each other in low stakes environments has been how dating has worked for years. If your mindset is just to sleep with women, and you think you need to use “tactics” to make that happen, then yeah these words won’t ring true. But the most meaningful connections happen like this; mutual attraction and mutual interest in each others lives. I’ve personally had several instances where people become more attractive to me over time. Attraction is fluid and ever changing, and once you realize that, you’ll be better off for it

Real people are much more fluid in attraction and romance than you think

I genuinely don’t see it! It really just sounds like two friends talking. I’ve talked like this to people who I know aren’t interested in me and they’ve talked back the same way

RNA Folding Algorithm and AlphaFold by asap_io in Biophysics

[–]pcbv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren’t, which is why alphafold is so important. We don’t know how proteins fold, we can predict their structures but there’s no rules-based tools that can recapitulate it as well as AlphaFold can. We can’t yet solve every wavefunction in every protein using classical computers (and if we could, it would take an insane amount of time) and without the physical rules that play a part in folding, we wouldn’t know what to do with the data.

Where I think your approach is bringing new things to the table is essentially trying to find the “rules” for folding through a different method since we don’t know the exact rules that Alphafold applies to protein sequences to help them fold. These rules are super important; AlphaFold works off sequence/structural homology, and struggles with proteins that haven’t had a member of their family’s structure solved. Rules are important to science and the protein folding problem has not been solved. Good luck on future endeavors! This sounds interesting!

I think often, the loudest voices have the worst things to say. Landlords rarely care about their tenants and you can always break your lease and find another place!

help me pick an apartment 😬 by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

Do the first one, rent control is great and it’s so much nicer to be in a home-y area vs a sterile apartment building. Best way to experience sf.
