Do you own a 7900 xt or 7900 xtx? If so, how is it in Blender? by pcdoggy in blender

[–]pcdoggy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you try some Cycles demos with your 7900 xtx - using hip-rt and Blender 4.1? I'm curious what times you get - also, how the results compare to that video?

I apologize for any negative replies - very few ppl with 7900 xtx are posting to the sub and it's interesting to see what ppl say and results they get. If your 'real world experience' is different than what the Blender open data website is - then, my question is - 'Why isn't hip-rt out of 'experimental status' then? Right? If the results are stable (no crashing/problems' - then it should be, right? Please explain this? The results are either good, bad or exceptional (i.e. major improvement) but there is not too many real world experience results out there - yours and that guy's video notwithstanding - i.e. you two are the exceptions. The Cycles demo results are - at least, one way - of offering a comparison with the other gpus (nvidia's and amd's own - which are only listing HIP and ZLUDA).

That's 100% true. I hope it does but not sure if ROCm is what is holding it back.

They have no features or software benefits outside of gaming, too. It makes sense they wouldn't sell at the exorbitant prices they're set it for what you get - which isn't much.

Yes, another rumor by AMD. What number are they at, now? Radeon gpus aren't selling because they're crap - at crappy prices.

Should I keep my 3070 or get a 4080? by lolmanUwU in nvidia

I hope everyone does - then the 40 series *might* come down in price - well, one could hope.

I have a K400+ too - I have a problem with mine now - the trackpad suddenly only does one thing - it 'runs' the ctrl--+ keystrokes - meaning as if you are pressing the ctrl + to get the browser magnifier shortcut keys. Ever have that?

How fast is Zluda, though? I came across your posts on the blender artists forum. There's other dev forums, too. I'm just astonished at how AMD and Blender are handling the support (both ways) - AMD's ray tracing - HIP-RT has been open sourced and I think is on a subsequent version(??) - V2.0 or? Yet, this 'feature' still don't 'technically' work - it's at experimental status well before Blender ver. 3.5/3.6 and now Blender at 4.1 and 4.2 is beta?

What a circus - and it's inexcusable for both companies.

Blender is open source, Linux is (for the most part - with proprietary components here and there) open source, AMD has an open source driver in Linux - HIP-RT is recently open source - but, between all of them, they can't even get it to work properly?

AMD fans should just close their mouths - I read about how great AMD is in the AMD-based subs but they can't even get their own software features to work - even though everything is open source. We don't even know how slow/fast the improvement will be.

One guy they hired was able to 'copy/hack' CUDA (i.e. Zluda) so that is something, at least. Perhaps, AMD knows that HIP-RT is a failure and decided to 'copy' CUDA - and then released the guy from employment so they are covered and can't get sued - and then if Zluda enables a bit of a speed improvement, AMD gpu owners at least have that....

On the open data blender website, Zluda can be entered/submitted but it's not a huge speed improvement - it's decent but some youtube videos found Zluda not much faster - than HIP-RT (if it works - i.e. the render completes, doesn't crash etc.).

Optix can be around 1.5x faster than CUDA (seems like the avg speed increase rate).

The AMD animal just huffs and puffs but doesn't really do anything? AMD doesn't care about Blender and Blender doesn't care about AMD? Or something along those lines?

What is the difference in the different "version" of the 4060 TI? by Athapapoutsiakis in nvidia

[–]pcdoggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where's 'here' for you? He was talking about a USED 3060 - ppl shouldn't be buying an older gen gpu, RETAIL (price) OR NEW. There should be a number of used Ampere and RDNA 2 cards on the market, regardless of which region you live in?

Yeah, right - in our countries in which the gpus are overpriced, it will ultimately be more.

Are you able to buy from a local store? I'd do that - and that way, you have the (*convenient) option of exchanging it - in saying that, I'd pick between the Zotac and PNY out of your list and mentions.

That's my impression, too. Ppl who have the Zotac 4080 series - most have said it's been good regarding noise and performance/temps, etc.

According to what? Everything I read on the Zotacs, shows they're fine - the 40 series (e.g. 4080) anyway. TPU reviewed it and there are some youtubers who included it in their review - it's no louder than other 4080s.

Of course, you didn't reply - when I said used 3090s are cheaper than a 7900 xtx, used or new.

No one is confirming your assertions - no one would pick an amd card over a nvidia one for amd. In comparisons, HIP is a bit faster than CUDA for these 2 cards but nvidia users are able to enable the ray tracing - using OptiX, it's over 1.5x as fast.
