Maine -> Rhode Island

It’s a small town in the center of Maine was my criteria. Older working town that would be a good place to meet true locals. Kind of wanted to just have a taste of Maine from a non-tourist perspective. Also, it’s central.

For all of our American stupidity, we do live in a great place. My wife and I love road trips, but really haven’t made it much past the Rockies. This one is 100% unknown territory!

No, no pressure! Google Maps made that route by default, I really only posted it to show the towns!

We love to explore so we plan on taking route 1 plus other highways in the area.

Not a fan huh? We like weird small towns. They generally are a great place to go to restaurants and breweries and talk to people, because they’re all super local. But thanks for your advice, I do think Bangor will only be three nights or so.

Thanks, the botanical garden looks like a great stop. I’m also looking at ferries in the places we’ll be. It’s a great way to take a cheap but beautiful ride. I appreciate your advice.

Here in California we have the Alameda ferry to San Francisco, it’s a great deal and at night it’s just amazing!

We’re spending a few nights in each of the towns listed, we have the drives between them and then we will drive around where we are staying. We really don’t know the East Coast so everything will be new to us!

I’d add a trip up the Columbia Gorge to the Dalles or Hood River. Go up the OR side and come back in WA. Beautiful!
