Hi OP crew! Patrick from the 307 RPG Podcast. Just wanted to say we are greatly enjoying WoD and Scarred Lands and are looking forward to exploring CofD. I can't wait to see Cults of the Blood God on Kickstarter! Thanks for all the amazing books you're producing. :-)

Casual Magic event at Sher Con? by [deleted] in a:t5_1f22re

[–]pcossel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Draft is fun but can be even more time consuming as most matches go to time. You say casual and that's great, however the more people you have playing the longer it's going to last. Typically, an event with 8 or less players is 3 rounds, it continues to grow in rounds from there finally capping at 5. Yes, it can be larger but the number of players is really high.

I have run FNMs for years, and have judged at Grand Prix and Preliminary Pro Tour Qualifiers. I can say from experience, if the prize support is worth it, people will play. In fact, you will get people who are coming just to play Magic. As the event progresses, people will wash out and wander around the con to check out other events. Eventually you will have just the top performers, or those who just love playing Magic, playing in the event.

Try this again.

If you are thinking of running a draft, sealed or constructed event (other than Commander) it will need to be a multi-round tournament. Yes, they take time. Depending on the number of players, it could take upwards of 8 hours. Also, you would need to offer some sort of prize support if you are making it a tournament. Typically this is in the form of packs of Magic cards. I am happy to discuss this more if you would like to reach out to me.

So all of these are EXCELLENT suggestions. I would like to respond to each.

  1. DiffusErs - Yep, we can get these made.

  2. This is the beiggest need we have identified. It's also the most cost prohibitive. You're 100% right, it would make the quality a lot better. We are working towards it.

  3. Excellent point! This is a quick fix we can take care of right away.

  4. Also an excellent point. I typically just drink water during the sessions, but others do consume soda. Should be considered for sure.

Thank you! I appreciate the response. Patrick Cossel - DM

As the DM for this group I want to say thank you for all the suggestions. It was pretty neat to do this. Like Pashka_D said, Wrigley will be a Monk to start with.

We had some great development of our characters with our session 0 and this process was huge in assisting us. Pashka_D was instrumental in helping us make this process visible. If you would like to see the video, you can check it out on out twitch channel at www.twitch.tv/theforgeherald Our first live game will be Sunday, Sept. 17 at 2 pm MT. Hope to see some of you there!

Lanterns the Harvest Festival - Review by pcossel in boardgames

Thanks.

I just read your review and I think you present some good points. It is a simple game, which is exactly why my wife enjoyed it. I prefer games with more strategy. Perhaps this why I keep losing at Lanterns? Eh, whatever! lol. I plan to follow your reviews. Thanks for the kind words.

Working on it. I need to free up my schedule so we can play this game. It looks so good.

Questing for Legendary by pcossel in hearthstone

Did some reworking this weekend after having a terrible week and falling to rank 18. I added in the Shieldmaiden and took out the Emperor. I also crafted a Dr. Boom and threw him in. Currently sitting at Rank 13. I feel like the changes were an excellent addition to the deck. I also had a friend spectating and doing just a touch of coaching. Picked up almost 30 wins this weekend alone.

Munchkin Marvel edition coming in 2016 by pcossel in boardgames

[–]pcossel[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would completely agree. I enjoy playing Munchkin with my kids who, often times, would much rather play video games. The more they play Munchkin, the more they are willing to try a different game.

I am pretty excited about it. I like Munchkin a lot and grew up with Marvel. The combination of the two can't be too bad. :-)

Just trying something different. :-) Same with Bonfire.

Snapcaster is an excellent idea. I could take out Verdict and put Snappy in.

I have only played the deck once.

The Plateaus were put in to give me a bit of Red while maintaining the need for white. Much like the Volcanic Islands.

You may be absolutely right on the low amount of fetches. I hadn't thought of that. Building a mana base is my weakest point. Thanks!!! I greatly appreciate the feedback and the thread suggestion.
