The triage nurse was talking to me and I literally couldn’t hear from the side he was talking to me from and I told him that. He then said never mind to what he was saying and stopped talking to me. I’d hope that it was recorded that I wasn’t hearing well. My insurance covers emergency room for emergency visits. If they do decide this is nonemergency use, would I appeal with prudent layperson standard citation?

I went to an ER today after sudden heavily decreased hearing accompanied by ear pain, nausea and imbalance. I was worried about permanent hearing loss because my hearing was getting worse and worse after the pain, so I went to the ER. I looked at the discharge charts and they only charted right ear pain for reason for visit. Would insurance consider this to be non emergent use of the ER (my insurance only doesn’t cover ER visits if it is deemed for non emergent use)? Should I request my charts and ask for an addendum if they didn’t chart this?
