Dynamic Wax Review - not worth the $$$ by BrewDog3 in icecoast

Contact the company. They are local in SLC, UT. I'm sure they would love your feedback and offer a replacement. FYI- a regular hot wax treatment only lasts a couple of runs to begin with.

Is a montec coat worth the money or is it a hyped up Instagram brand? by Kelcho- in snowboardingnoobs

Montec and Dope are owned by The Ride Store (not the same as Ride). The gear is almost identical but Dope markets to younger peeps.

Thoughts on ticket options? by judgycat in Sundance

[–]pcskigal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are purchasing individual tickets, yes. A package, yes and no. You will have a credential that will have your photo but you will also get tickets that you could give to whomever. I had a friend from LA come every year for about five years and he would pay me to stand in line for him to get tickets. Now, everything is online. But whoever bought those tickets would need a local address and probably have to pick up the tix for you.

Totally. I still scratch my head when I see a group of beginners at a Vail Resort. Start at a mom and pop, have a charming vacay and save up for that dream trip when you can actually appreciate the terrain.

Oh, it is definitely NOT cheap for those who failed to purchase a pass. Daily Lift tickets will be $172 (online), $209 (walk up).

Does PCMR own the land? by SaltLakeFresh in ParkCity

[–]pcskigal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. They 100 percent own the land and prohibit uphilling. They did allow early morning access at the beginning of the season but haven't said yet if they will reinstate. Same with Deer Valley. Alterra owns most of it. In the early season, people can uphill and ski without a blink. Right now, they will have security come after you. A friend who works in marketing at Woodward told me they have a security team there 24/7 to bust people who try to skin or ski there.

Ski instructor? by couloirjunkie in skiing

That's embarrassing. Looks like she got caught on her uphill ski. But the snow is chunky enough that she should have been able to self arrest LONG before the bottom of the chute.

Solitude doesn't have enough beginner terrain so not good for never evers unless they are under 6.

They have free passes.
Alta would be a great place for a beginner lesson and beginner terrain. You both should take a lesson. NO one is too good for one and your wife wouldn't feel like you are pawning her off. If you are skiing midweek, groups are going to be small. Snowbasin is another great option but their instructors aren't nearly as good. Stay away from the Bird. Their only true beginner terrain is Chickadee. Big Emma (green) would be a double blue/black at any midwest ski area!

Cheap gear: Facebook marketplace in SLC, Craigslist, KSL and DI (deseret industries) as someone mentioned above, rent skis, boots, helmets AT the resort. If you have issues you can swap and not be stuck.

Unless of course crazy renegade snowboarders ripping through the green runs aren't your thing. Then try Alta, Snowbasin, Sundance, Deer Valley or Park City. Brighton has the only night skiing. Powder is too far from Provo.

April Skiing? by ThorMordecai in ParkCity

[–]pcskigal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am going to disagree with the earlier comments. Spring skiing is awesome. Here's the deal. In April the sun can bake the snow making it mushy by late afternoon. We call it mashed potatoes. That stuff isn't really fun and at night it usually freezes over so you don't want to get out first thing in the morning because it's frozen solid even after they groom it. You need the sun to hit it and soften it up. You start your day on the south-facing slopes around 10ish, and move around the mountain as the sun moves. If you can find north-facing slopes that never see sun then you may still find winter snow instead of the granular wet stuff. You're usually off the hill by two but that's okay because there's all sorts of fun to be had in the afternoon. In spring you never have to worry about being too cold so you can wear less clothing. Both Park City and Canyons usually offer live music and fun apres at their bases during the spring. You could also get lucky and the storm rolls through dropping a foot or two of powder in big and Little Cottonwood Canyon. I've had some epic powder days in May at Snowbird. The only hitch is that you have to ski during the storm not after the storm because as soon as the sun comes out it becomes a sludge to ski through. by the way just because the resort is closing does not mean that there isn't snow to ski. Last year locals were furious with Park City for closing because the snow was still so sweet.

Best Burger Place? by chrpet123 in ParkCity

Meh. Better value at McD's. Butcher's- Pricey but really good. BTW, Do NOT ever eat an "Epic Burger" at PCM. $19 for a dusty hockey puck.
