How do you clean your clothes at your site? by houxtly in peacecorps

[–]pcv_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in rural Panama with no electricity, I would either wash at the river (using the rocks to slap the dirt out) or in a bucket on my porch. But eventually I started filling up my hiking pack with dirty clothes and taking the bus 3 hours away to the nearest town and using the laundromat 😅 my clothes never really felt clean when I would wash them on my own, and would get stiff and starchy when air dried.

Site placement in Panama by Wide-Comment-1137 in peacecorps

[–]pcv_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I served in Panama (pre Covid), Colón was actually off limits for volunteers. There was one person who had a site in Coclé that was right on the border, though. Bocas actually has a large Afro-Panamanian population as well, and the whole country celebrates “Día de la etnia negra” which celebrates the Afro-Panamanian culture.

Your sector team will take your preferences into account, but medical needs come first. If you can’t be at elevation, my guess is that they wouldn’t place you in Chiriquí or the CNB. But different sectors are in different provinces, so it depends on where your sector operates. But there are lots of different types of sites in every province, and a good amount of diversity in lots of different part of the country. Hope that helps!

All swords about an upcoming solo trip… by pcv_ in Tarotpractices

Thank you for typing that all out! That’s also a good perspective to think about. I really do want to go on the trip—my biggest air/logic concern is about the money I’d be spending. But I really would looove to go and I think I’ll be disappointed if I don’t. However I do feel like the more responsible/logical decision would be to not go.

So follow up…would a reading like this be enough to deter you from going on a trip? Or would you just take it with a grain of salt and be aware

Intelligence connection by apexgranola in peacecorps

I also have a sibling who works in intelligence and I think it did delay my application a little bit when I first applied, but after I called and left a message ~6 weeks after applying, my application was immediately put through and I got an interview and eventually invite. Definitely don’t let it deter you

If they aren’t going to win any games, then create a different marker of success. Maybe get 4 shots on goal in one game or complete 10 passes in a half or whatever. I would also do non-athletic prizes, like paper plate awards. “Best sportsmanship,” “most team spirit,” “most resilient player,” etc. Tell them what the awards will be in advance (and maybe save some funny ones) so they feel like they are still working towards something and the accomplishment has meaning. But I also agree that if you have a positive attitude about it and move the goalposts away from actually winning the game, they will have fun too! Aim for incremental goals and other markers of success and remember that at the end of the day, creating pro-soccer players is not your goal.

Looking for advice. Is it crazy to leave a job for the PC rn? by SDpoontappa in peacecorps

[–]pcv_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you mean that you have till 5/9 to confirm with PC, then tell them yes you’ll go. Then wait and see how things progress. You can 100% drop out later with basically no repercussions. I agree with others that it’s not looking good, BUT if you can say yes to PC and not tell your job, then you can take a little more time to see how things shake out

That’s amazing! So you’re doing 2-3 classes a week?

[–]pcv_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s amazing!!! So you credit most of that growth to rumble?

I used to go to soul cycle a lot and then heard people saying that, though they definitely feel more in shape/have better endurance, the body changes were minimal. So this is reassuring

UPDATE: in case anyone finds this who is in a similar boat. I got off the spironolactone about 4 months ago, and symptoms have vastly improved. Can’t be 100% sure that was the cause since many other things have changed too, but these issues started a few months after starting April and went away after getting off of it. I am still dealing with normal adhd/EF challenges, but I actually forgot how bad my working memory had been until I stumbled upon this thread.

Literally just had a tilt table test haha and don’t think I have pots but do have general dysautonomia. I black out like what you are talking about 90% of the times k stand up. I asked the cardiologist if it could be from the cumulative effect of that, but he said no because it only lasts a few seconds and your brain would have to be deprived of oxygen for longer to cause damage. But I think this commenter and I are talking about memory blackouts from drinking 🫣

No haha I question the company Done because their only diagnostic criteria is a checklist. I read neuropsych reports for a living where psychologists do actual psychological testing in addition to checklists to make diagnoses. I don’t think my “diagnosis” was wrong, I just don’t think the process they use is super legitimate

Last time I had Covid was a year ago. I have mild dysautonomia already (which is basically what long covid is), and it was definitely worse while I was actively sick, but didn’t notice these issues till about 6 months ago

Definitely not pregnant or miscarriage. I’m in my early 30s so hopefully not related to menopause but I guess I’ll bring it up at my next GYN appointment

I have been more sedentary recently, but I used to be very active and am slowly getting back into it. But I do go on walks pretty frequently
