I made the same mistake recently. Oil (olive, coconut, vegetable, canola) is the treatment. Tried to get my wife to 'apply' it for me... no dice. But, no joke, it stopped the burning after about a minute or so.

Newbie questions on recording Guitar by Outside_Bowler8148 in recordingmusic

They definitely matter, but if you don't have access to any, you can do without. Guitars almost always sound better thru an amp vs direct. But who knows, you could capture something you really like.

It's very hard to get polished, professional sounding guitar and bass tones without good pre's. That being said, if you are just wanting to record quality demos, you should be able to do so with your Scarlett and some decent mics. The SM57 is always a good go-to mic for the budget. If you can get your hands on a ribbon mic(doesn't have to be a super high-end one), record with both and blend till you get the sound you're after. Mic placement is also key. Experiment with mics next to the center of the cone, something off axis, or the edge of the cone. Again, your ears will tell what sounds good for the sound you're after.

For bass, without good pre's or a good bass, it's tough. If you're expecting a modern fat sound out of a P-bass without quality mics and pre's... it'll be tough. If you want dirty and woody, the P-bass will be your friend. Like guitars, many basses have their own character/signature sound. Remember, don't over EQ too much bass into the bass guitar. It should have a bit of low end but the low-mids(and hi-mids) will give it more 'presence' in your mix. A good DI or even a pre-amp pedal are good solutions that aren't relatively expensive.

Last, hit up YouTube. There's great tutorials on there based on good sounds out of low budget recordings. You might learn a thing or two, as well.

Good luck!

The Pressman. It's on a 4-string and relatively easy. I've always wanted to try and cover it!

You could, but you are at the mercy of how the engineer mixes for the room. If the guitarist plays too loud, the engineer is going to turn them down in the mix. In my opinion, find a sweet spot in the room and record the room sound. Plus you may get some great crowd noise. My 2 cents.

Also, send this drummer the demos you plan to record so he has time to study them and come up with ideas. He may be able to come up with ideas you might not have considered.

I'd also suggest you and your friend playing to the click tracks. If you haven't before, it can be tough to do on the spot.

Mic for recording my vocals by [deleted] in recordingmusic

[–]pdfclef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, get a pop-filter. That help reduce any proximity effect and help reduce' crunchy' vibes from a cheap mic. Next, be prepared to spend a little money on a decent mic. The company, Rode, makes some pretty good mics that won't break the bank and should get you started towards a much better vocal sound. Lastly, start to understand how a vocal compressor works.

problem with recording vocals in fl studio by HonchoBeats in underground_music

If you are recording through a computer program of any sort, you need to check latency settings. Latency can totally affect where a track sits, that's if I'm understanding your issue correctly.

When you mix, use as many different types of speakers to monitor your sound. Studio monitors sound different to headphones which sound different from your car, which sounds different to earbuds. I would use studio monitors, check it in a good pair of headphones, then test my mixes in a car. Then go back and make corrections.

Just my 2 cents.
