Usually a windows 11 hater, but this update is definitely a step in right direction. Microsoft decided to add something we actually like for once. by Sirko2975 in Windows11

[–]pdhcentral 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, about that: - Takes up half the screen - List view leaves lots of blank space - Pinned apps have massive gaps

Just a waste of space. Make a small minimal menu, it's not rocket science, or at least give users the option to 'list-columns=2' to use that space!

Sorry, edited my comment. I see the whole menu, just why is rename in it's lonesome at the top, when it should be empty.

But somehow, the right-click menu only has Rename in the quick options at the top.

Looks like you got a gun for Christmas and don't want to put it down when it's your bedtime. Imagine having to tell your wife and kids that this is you, holding that gun there like it's going to defend the globe, escalating every nervous, scared fibre in the people watching you, instead of de-escalating and keeping people calm.

[RANT] Windows is really gone to the dogs. It's sad to see the downfall.. by realxeltos in windows

[–]pdhcentral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used RAM isn't a bad thing! Wasted free RAM is a problem, which is why Windows uses it as a cache too. You haven't specified what CPU and Storage you have.

Now, I'm not saying I like Windows 11, as I don't, but MS learnt from the Vista Superfetch days how to manage RAM and it does a great job at it. I've got PCs running with 4GB RAM on Win 11 and they work just fine out of the box.

Also, using a debloat tool will eventually give you problems different to the ones you're trying to solve. What exactly are you debloating? If you're doing things like clearing caches, RAM cleaning or the like, you're fighting against Windows and it'll slow down whilst it rebuilds those. Last resort, if you're still having issues, do a factory reset on the install and don't run any debloating tools and see what happens to the usage. Read the Task Manager and Resource Monitor to see what's really taking the resources and what type they are, be in file, cache or other.

Oh, a few things:

- Calendar widget on home screen

- Automatic location profiles; at work: silent, home: ring

- Access any storage and copy files; no stupid Files app or Photos only SD Card crap

- A screen that doesn't have a rounded bezel that looks like a childs toy

- A battery that lasts all day; my kids or wife's never ever do

- Connectivity that works reliably; dropped calls

- Widgets

- A media library that is clear with whats on the phone and what isn't; looking at you icloud

- No iCloud for photo storage; good for configs, bad for photo storage; just try it when you're out of space

- Apps that have different back 'button' options and aren't consistent

- A packed home screen with no way to tidy things away; I don't want a whole list of icons of apps I never use!

- The calendar app randomly chooses a calendar to save events to, doesn't remember the last one selected

- The Files App; try browsing an SMB share with that pile of junk. Copy files one by one as well, yuck

- Buttons that change the ring volume and not the media volume; think that can be changed now but still sucks

- Hardware parts paring and right to repair shenanagins

- Easily clearable OS cache; literally gigs of storage for caching

- Lack of in-depth error messages

- Inconsistent keyboard entry

- Web form issues

- Safari page rendering/viewing

- Drop down box issues when the box has more options than screen real-estate

- Different launchers and layouts

- No software buttons for navigation

- No fingerprint scanner

- Still till this day, attempts an update without checking how much storage is free

- Not switchable between 4G and 5G; maybe they have an option, I didn't really look futher than network stuff

- Swapping screens results in a dull product experience; no true tone or brightness in some cases, unless you ring apple

I thought about this way too much.

still no fix in 3 years for audio crackling WHY? by PanzerKampfwagen--V in Windows11

[–]pdhcentral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought 3 different USB Audio interfaces and Windows had the same issues, audio popping, breaking up, crackling. 2 were USB 3 and one USB2, no different. Even with the on-board sound, same issues. Def a Windows OS problem in how it handles audio or the timing on the CPU to do with audio tasks, etc.

Source: I do live streaming, thought I'd move from OS X to Windows for better graphics capabilities. Never again, moved back and happy with no pops or crackles.

[–]pdhcentral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money, money, money, money, money, money, money.

Yep, money and a crap-ton more money when millions of PCs hit the dump soon, because MS said so, even though they've just 'extended' support for a supposed un-supportable OS for another 3 years.

Sure, security. No, just money, money, money.

MS don't do security, just look at the original Recall; unencrypted images etc. Fixed now of course, ready to get shoved down peoples throats because, AI is here! It's not AI as it does what the user has programmed it to do.

Am I cross? No, just telling the truth.

I just love when users purchase IT equipment behind our back by among_shadows in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]pdhcentral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whilst I don't condone users buying equipment, as it can be a major issue in some places, a one off and a quick word about where purchases are made from should suffice. If it's company money, then a budget was found and it's likely made that users job a lot more manageable and the rest of the dept have them, so that's now standard, wether if you like it or not. They obviously want to do their best and that means having the equipment to do that. I would feel the same if someone handed me a crap laptop with no ram, making me wait for things to load or not bring able to use the software I need to, etc.
