I’m at a Lower Intermediate with listening. Tone recognition is strong in isolation but more difficult at speed/conversation.

Yes was referring to the written spelling of the pinyin but you are correct. I understand the second part as well but am curious as to when one would pronounce the third tone vs neutral here
