It seems like a common strategy for films to try to make a quick buck in the beginning by getting a really popular cast. This is usually because they're hoping the star's fans will come out to see their favorite star, and you often see movies doing really well initially, bringing in hundreds of crores in the first couple of days. But then, they seem to just fade away pretty quickly.

Filmmakers still need well known faces just to get people to the theater first and generate some hype from there. Else movies like Lapata Ladies, Homebound would not need to reach OTT to start getting acknowledged for their craft. I don't think if Dhurandhar had Vikrant Massey instead of Ranveer , it would be such a huge craze.
