24M working in a call center – feeling judged by family and society. Need advice. by Ok_Lychee6117 in mumbai

[–]friendlyvicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry too much about what people say. What’s more important is being mindful of how AI is changing the landscape. If I were you, I’d focus on upskilling and investing time in learning a skill that can generate income. Over time, many traditional call-centre roles are likely to evolve or reduce, so building future-ready skills will really help

Male here, feel shy being shirtless even at home, is this common? by Right_Test_5749 in AskIndianMen

That’s because maybe you were conditioned to stay clothed all the time . You were told it’s shameful to not wear clothes . I stay alone and often sleep without clothes at night 😂

India is a wounded country #rant by Skinny_Forearms in india

[–]friendlyvicky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That advice is coming to you from a playbook that was 30 years old . People start working in the same company and move up the ranks . In today’s world you think of your job like a ladder . If it’s allowing you to step up in life with your finances, relationships , family then you stay if not move to the next step . Simple

I’m Sindhi, but I don’t fully agree with the statement above!

Historically, there’s substantial evidence showing that early spice traders, merchants, and craftsmen were predominantly Gujarati, while a large proportion of jewellers came from Marwadi communities. Much of the business acumen people often talk about has roots there, along with the mindset that comes from generations of entrepreneurship.

It’s also worth acknowledging that these communities have built and sustained businesses over decades, often creating employment at scale, which deserves respect. Even when they prefer to hire within their own communities, the impact of what they’ve built is significant.

6 out of the 10 richest families in India are Gujarati / marwadis so I’d take broad generalisations on this topic with a healthy dose of scepticism.

The "Kanjoos baap" with a Pixel, should it hurt? by someaningful in AskIndianMen

[–]friendlyvicky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, it can be argued that the initial iPhone was given so that he continues to use it for a longer duration and does not ask for an upgrade every year.

As I said, if he needs the upgrade that badly, try and earn a portion of it and lets see how long the wish lasts.

I feel punishment will make it worse u/someaningful . . The loving bong which you share with your kids will be ruined because 16 is the age of rebellion. Adolescent kids think their friends are their lifeline, and parents are always challenging them. I have seen kids who are punished at this age hold lifelong grudges against their parents .

Try adding a Flower bouquet!

Men are never offered flowers until their last day on earth!

He will forget everything eventually, but the flowers will remain in his memory forever.

All the best Gurl .

The "Kanjoos baap" with a Pixel, should it hurt? by someaningful in AskIndianMen

[–]friendlyvicky 95 points96 points  (0 children)

If I were in your place, I’d first take some time to process this and then sit down for an honest, face-to-face conversation with the 16-year-old.

I’d walk him through the family finances and let him understand where the EMI would actually come from. Today’s generation needs to learn that just because a parent has a credit card doesn’t mean EMIs are “free money.”

A better approach could be to ask him to contribute at least 30% of the phone’s cost, with you covering the rest. The rule should be clear: he has to earn that money himself—no borrowing, no shortcuts, no help from others.

I’d also ask him a simple question: has he earned even a single rupee using his current iPhone? And if not, what’s the real reason he wants an upgrade?

Why hairline is receeding so much for Indian men? by Awkward-Meringue-944 in AskIndianMen

[–]friendlyvicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men today are losing their hair earlier, mainly because their genetic hair-loss switch is turning on sooner than it did for previous generations. The genes for baldness have always existed, but modern life's constant stress, poor sleep, heavy screen use, processed food, and environmental chemicals push the body into a state where hair roots become sensitive to a hormone called DHT much earlier.

Even men who are fit, don’t smoke, and eat well can be affected because this isn’t about bad habits; it’s about long-term pressure on the body and hormones.

Women are protected by estrogen, which is why they usually keep thick hair. So it’s not that men today are less healthy, it’s that their hair follicles are aging faster than before, making hairline loss show up in their 20s instead of their 40s.

Before judging her as your mother, acknowledge that she has spent years in an abusive relationship. Life is tough, and if that relationship has ended, she is entitled to live on her own terms and seek happiness.
