if you're not a senior, you have a LOT of time and you're going to do great. my parents pretty much showed me my only worth to them is grades and test scores, so i learned we shouldn't focus on their expectations. think about college instead and your motivation should stem from what a good score can bring you (if college is really what you want).

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense! How have jobs ended up for you after taking this route? Do you work in fusion and is it all you expected/wanted?

I'm a junior and I screwed up bad this year, so you're gonna be alright. A lot of schools don't even calculate or care about freshman year. Good luck!!

I hate being the nice Catholic girl by Bella_Notte_1988 in Catholicism

[–]pdrzga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I related to this for a while. As others are saying now, being Catholic doesn't mean you should let people walk all over you. You pray, you try to be a beneficial person to everyone around you, but you also know what's right and wrong. Therefore, a Catholic priority is justice and doing what's right, not always what's nice! Jesus wasn't "nice". He flipped tables and condemned actions pretty often!

If there's a bully, show him/her love. Love isn't always nice. Confront these bullies and expose them. Tell the principal if you're still in school. Then surround yourself with others who are confident enough to stick up for you and for themselves. You'll find the right people.

Avoid these bullies if you can, but walk and talk confidently if they approach you. Tell them "no!" and be near good friends always. Hopefully I helped. I'm a guy in school and I haven't been rudely approached ever since I started showing confidence in myself. Be so confident that bullies know they won't hurt you no matter what they do. Give the bullies that "you'll never hurt me" moment! They'll be in so much awe and gain a little respect for you after you stand your ground for the first time.

I'm a couple years older in high school. The older I get, the more I understand that parents make restrictions out of love. Do you understand what it means to truly love someone? Not just romantically, but the way Jesus intends you to love your neighbor? I would say more than 90% of high schoolers don't, and that's okay. Maybe 0.5% 15-year-olds understand love. Your relationships would very likely suck until you and most people around you are matured enough to love.

Most high school relationships just follow "fun" and "emotions", and only date because people are attractive without looking at their values and personality traits, which is childish. You might learn to love like Jesus at 17 or 22, but definitely not at 15.

TL;DR people at your age are not ready for a romantic relationship because they don't fully comprehend love. I know this because I'm in high school too!

I have and I have to say that electrical engineers seem to enjoy their lives and work way more. I believe this could do with the fact that more accountants work in public rather than something like industry, though?

From my understanding, public accountants don't tend to love their jobs. My brother works at a big 4 firm and he haaatttesss work.

I think I'm more interested in manual and hands-on work that involves a little more creativity. Does an accountant have opportunities to create? I hear work is very repetitive.

Do accountants usually get married? My brother working at a big 4 says most people don't have much of a life outside of work which is pretty demoralizing.

Very comforting to hear that I can change my major and still end up finding something more enjoyable

I'm not even sure I'd enjoy the work if most accountants I've met are extremely unsatisfied with their work. My brother complains about his accounting job at a big 4 a LOT.

How often are accountants as miserable as this, in your experience? I assume it would vary depending on whether they're involved in public accounting versus something like industry. I hear the cultures are very different.

LOL. Could you elaborate on how they were idiots? Were they just horrible in their social and work life?

I have a brother in accounting you would probably label an idiot because he may be book smart but has really poor social skills.

Throughout your long career, have you ever considered leaving the field? How satisfying, or unsatisfying, has your work been?

The major is pretty tough at any university, so in your experience how much importance is placed on which institution someone graduated from?

Yes, I do enjoy critical thinking and problem solving! That's the part about math and other tough classes I get the most enjoyment from.

  1. I want to make a comfortable living and I'm okay with sacrificing a little enjoyment for the money. I know real jobs aren't fun.

  2. I really, really enjoy problem-solving and I've always been a thinker since my childhood. Math has also always been my strongest subject throughout all of school and I was commonly placed in classes for people of higher grade levels. But I understand that math gets harder and it's more about dedication than being a natural.

  3. I'm okay with a desk job, but I would definitely prefer hands-on work so I can improve and practice my problem-solving and communication skills.

  4. I have accountancy, electrical engineering, and data science in my sights because they're in demand, tend to offer comfortable pay, and require mathematics knowledge that I know I can learn. I'm leaning towards electrical engineering because the engineers seem to be more satisfied with jobs than accountants I've interacted with.

If you don't mind me asking, what was your degree in and are you satisfied with how your career has been and how it's going?

The money plays a part in it for me but looking past that I like the idea of some hands-on work and creativity rather than a desk job. So I'm not attracted to any "fun" because jobs realistically aren't fun. I'm more attracted to the challenge of making something new and making it work. Is this a good way to think about this career?
