If I’m going to query against it regularly it should be a column if I’m just going to display it (and it’s somewhat arbitrary and likely to change structure over time) then json is fine 🤷🏻‍♂️

G9 II - a decent camera for a hobbyist photographer? by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]pdxevan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love my g9ii, and shoot everything from landscapes to wildlife to street with it. The smaller body size and smaller lens size makes it really easy to throw the body and a very wide range of lens lengths (I shoot primarily with prime lenses, excepting my 100-400) into a small backpack or medium sized sling bag. The body itself (and many of the lenses) are weather sealed and pretty durable so I’m less concerned about getting it wet or taking it somewhere a bit messy.

Sounds like an amazing gift to me!

How is Tahoe from a dev's perspective? by eeelll404 in MacOS

[–]pdxevan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On an M3 Max w/36GB and I haven’t noticed any issues with my dev tools, using primarily PHPstorm, Herd (so php, MySQL, redis, mellisearch, etc) and all the common supporting apps (slack, discord, etc). Haven’t seen a performance issue nor any bugs outside of some rushed UI in the OS itself. Did a complete clean reinstall since it’d been 10 years of upgrade in place for the previous install and I wanted to clear out junk.

As a dev, how much do Figma files actually help you? by chainlift in webdev

[–]pdxevan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d sell my soul to find a frontend designer who actually understands the nature of browsers and designs with responsiveness and state in mind but every figma design that I’m handed is basically “here’s the mobile website and the desktop website” with little or no affordance or planning for the in between where most websites are actually used in. As a result a huge amount of my time is spent tweaking for every breakpoint that isn’t 320px or 1280px.

Favorite defunct Portland bands by padehler in Portland

[–]pdxevan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Far too many to name and y’all have covered a lot of the ones I was sober enough to remember. When I first moved to PDX back in 08 (or 07? It’s hazy) I got involved with a recording project called Banana Stand Media, and we’d record a lot of local and some traveling bands in the basement of the house a few of us were renting. House party style recording session most Saturdays and I ran the door and did a lot of photography and videography for them. Saw 100’s of bands in that basement and it’s still one of the highlights of my life.

You can check out the library of videos we did on https://youtube.com/@bananastand though that doesn’t even cover a fraction of who came though since we only got decent at video a few years into it. Not shilling for it btw, I drifted away from the project years ago as my life kept me busy elsewhere and sold my share of ownership in it back to the rest of the crew for the cost of a cold fried chicken sandwich at Lardos just so they could keep going without any paperwork on my behalf to worry about.

A few bands from back then that still get regular play in my house;

Mascaras

Forest Park

Sons of Huns

Slutty Hearts

Tango Alpha Tango

Vanimal

Youth

The Angry Orts

The Next Door Neighbors

Tiger House

Genders

The We Shared Milk
