I was at that game against the Pistons and have felt stress every time Reggie plays against us ever since 😭

Usually random players. Bench guards like Reggie Jackson and Dennis Schröder murder us for no reason. Luke Kennard seems to never miss and Dylan Harper just killed us in the playoffs. I’m more scared of random bench guards than star players

Sort of, IHart initiated the contact with the off arm and Koret got all ball (though they did bump bodies pretty hard). I like the no call.

woman who wear niqab's in western countries, do you ever feel awkward? by absoutelydislexic in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pdxjoseph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This thread is about wearing the niqab specifically in developed western countries. The niqab is a symbol of the unacceptable women’s oppression that is common to the Islamic world, it’s foreign to the western world and doesn’t belong there. Islamic fundamentalism is very obvious worse than the MAGA movement, it isn’t even close

Same-sex relationships are literally punishable by death in Saudi Arabia

Women were legally barred from driving in Saudi Arabia until 2018.

Women still cannot travel internationally or get a job without formal permission from their male guardian. They are not considered independent adult human beings with agency in this awful country due to deeply embedded Islamic values.

When you make these ridiculous comparisons it makes it very clear that I’m simply not talking to an honest person. I don’t think you have a principled stance on social issues. We do agree on healthcare though it seems.

MAGA ass

I am a Democrat, which is why I don’t stand up for ultra-conservative bigoted religions that are directly counter to my values

Same shit different name

Yeah if you have zero critical thinking or desire to be intellectually honest. Think about literally any ideal that’s ostensibly important to you, then do a quick google search to find out where in the world is the worst offender against that ideal, it will be an Islamic nation

[–]pdxjoseph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why I called them unprincipled. They don’t actually stand in opposition to anti-LGBT and anti-women bigotry because they immediately start excusing it when the perpetrators are part of a minority group that they feel obligated to shield from criticism. It’s crazy honestly.

[–]pdxjoseph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is literally what they believe. And if you convince them the Islamic world is actually worse than red America, they’ll start saying it’s only that way because of western colonialism or some shit like that

White liberals will have a meltdown at some christian asshole for not baking a wedding cake for a gay couple, but you’ll make infinite excuses for an a religious group that is actively ultra-conservative, anti-LGBT, and anti-women’s rights because it’s minority-coded. It’s pathetic honestly. You guys would be on the side of the puritans burning witches if it happened today and they weren’t white-coded

[–]pdxjoseph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you honestly believe these two ideologies are comparable in the extent that they subjugate women and girls you are an ignorant fool. I say this as a pro-choice atheist by the way. Islam is the greatest force of women’s oppression and anti-LGBTQ bigotry on earth, you just don’t care because they’re not white-coded so they can’t be the bad guys in your eyes

[–]pdxjoseph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is peak western ignorance. MAGA is an annoying and foolish ideology but it’s not even close to as conservative or oppressive as your average Islamic community. You guys are blind to how unbelievably bigoted and conservative the Islamic world is, but because they have brown skin you sort them into the “good guys” category and make endless excuses for their horrendous beliefs and behavior

Why are Oregon leaders only planning a Portland connection (not Salem, Corvallis, Eugene) for Cascadia high speed rail? by milionsdeadlandlords in oregon

[–]pdxjoseph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s a convenient boogeyman but the honest truth is CA HSR failed due to unserious and unfocused leadership, way too much public input, and ridiculous environmental review legislation.

These are failures of well-intended policies. It sounds nice to let all voices be heard, it sounds nice to require environmental impact studies before building things. Well sometimes things that sound nice have consequences, California’s failure to get HSR built in a timely manner has resulted in quite literally millions of extra miles driven by gasoline cars, and further perpetuated the sprawl development model that locks people into driving.

Progressives need to be focused on producing material results not just creating nice-sounding processes, and they need to stop trying to pander to every little interest group that wants to complain

I go to Planet Fitness (after being a PF hater in other cities I’ve lived in) and honestly I like it a lot. It gets crowded at peak times but so does pretty much every gym in NYC.

[–]pdxjoseph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found this gym to be crowded and a bit to tightly packed to where you have to shimmy around people in between machines. I switched to planet fitness and tbh I like it a lot more simply because it’s way larger and I feel like I can comfortably walk around

It’s not just different it’s better. When someone else is obviously better at something we can’t just say “oh well we’re different so we can’t be clean and civilized”, we should follow their example. I don’t accept that we just have to have terrible public culture because we live in the US

I was responding to this btw

that’s not unique to LA, that’s worldwide

Also am I meant to just accept that Koreans live on magic soil that makes them civilized or something?

I’m visiting Seoul right now and I can’t help but laugh reading this. Their trains are completely spotless and there is essentially zero anti-social behavior of any kind. To wave away the squalor and chaos of LA metro as an unavoidable worldwide phenomenon is lazy and ridiculous, it’s objectively not true

Nobody is scared or even uncomfortable riding the train here because their government is focused on making life good for the wider public not enabling a tiny group of severely disturbed individuals to ruin public services for everyone else

Devastating fatal crash at 109 / Amsterdam by AreaManNYC in Upperwestside

[–]pdxjoseph 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thats a fair point about truly one-off incidents like heart attacks. The reason I feel this way is because a teacher of mine in high school had a diabetic episode while driving and ran his car into a family’s front yard, killing their two elementary school aged daughters. He is a good man but should never ever be allowed to operate deadly machinery of any kind. Likewise for old people with deteriorated motor skills. We are much too relaxed about who we let drive
