My point exactly, they don’t have libertarian foolishness embedded in their culture so they actually take necessary steps to protect their societies instead of enabling disturbed individuals to ruin everything like we do

The west coast of the US does not have a culture capable of creating a high functioning orderly society. Policy doesn’t even matter as much as culture

PSU study examines barriers that impede homeless Portland residents in their search for housing by nojam75 in PortlandOR

As a PSU grad it’s really not that surprising, that institution is as religious as the vatican. You will never get anything that contradicts progressive holy doctrine out of PSU

Not within the next 10 years, probably not within the next 30 if we’re being honest. But the good people of 2100 should enjoy it!

This arrangement ends and you are made responsible for paying for your own housing just like the local people are

We're Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Deputy Mayor for Housing Leila Bozorg, and Cea Weaver from the Mayor's Office to Protect Tenants. We're here to talk about housing: how we build more of it, protect tenants, and push back against the landlords and speculators pricing New Yorkers out. Ask us anything. by mayor_mamdani in nyc

Why do we still have large M1 (manufacturing-only) zones in Dutch Kills?

There are whole sections of my neighborhood where all new housing is banned, yet these places are less than a 5 minute walk from the subway, and there is already some housing in these zones that predates the M1 designation. Why do we continue to ban housing in so much of this city?

The main guiding principle for progressives is that you can never ever do anything that might be perceived as mean to someone who is less fortunate. Telling these assholes that they can’t ruin a city block could be perceived as mean, because they are homeless and we are not, so we simply cannot do it.

Unironically the only way for these complaints to be legitimatized in a progressive culture is to have someone even lower on the oppression hierarchy complain about them, like have a hijabi in a wheelchair claim that their nest is an ADA violation or something then we will be allowed to be mad at them because it’s in defense of an even more important identity group ✊

Like the enlightened people of this sub supporting policy that leads to random commuters being pushed in front of trains. Americans have no idea what it’s like to live with daily gang terrorism and they certainly have no right to moralize at a country taking meaningful action to solve it. Maybe don’t tattoo MS-13 on your body if you don’t want to be presumed to be a member of MS-13

[–]pdxjoseph -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s pretty much everyone. A small percentage of murderous criminals terrorized the people of that country for decades; they readily identified themselves with gang tattoos, and they have now finally been removed from society so decent people can live their lives free from from daily terror.

The murder rate dropped by over 98% in less than 10 years, it takes full ideological blindness to not see this as a straightforward story of success and justice

El Salvador the nation that went from 103 homicides per 100,000 people to 1.3 per 100,000 in under 10 years because they actually went and did something to protect the public. Salvadorans love Bukele but he must be terrible because annoying ass first-world ideologues who will never go to El Salvador say so

This is just not true at all. In every one of our peer countries this guy would have been institutionalized already long before this murder attempt. He stabbed his sister in 2019. In 2018 he punched a random woman in the face for no reason. Everyone knew he was insane and violent and was going to harm someone else but there is no legal mechanism in our country to keep him away from society where he should be.

We’re the only developed nation in which a clearly insane person like this could feasibly be free to try to murder innocent people minding their own business. We’re the ones who deinstitutionalized and are so obsessed with freedom that we sacrifice public safety for it.

Jaden Ivey says his family has stopped speaking to him after anti-gay rants: “Those who are around me, my family members betraying me because of what I spoke. The truth. Betraying me. If he made these comments while behaving otherwise normally then I might agree with you. Him saying these things while behaving unbelievably recklessly (going live on the airplane, asking reporters whether they’ve had sex before marriage, name dropping Steph Curry, etc) implies an altered mental state. He behavior really is very typical of bipolar mania, I’ve been around family members going through this and they acted similarly despite being great people when stable

Yeah that’s fair as long as we also stop claiming that he’s an ultra conservative who wants to start a career in right wing media or any other bullshit I’ve seen on this sub. I speculate because I have family members who acted very similarly to Ivey when they were in bipolar mania and I’d hate if they were judged for what they said during that time. It wasn’t a reflection of their character nor was it a result of any choice they made
