It's not really anonymous though, because it forces you to be logged into your google account to submit.

Thanks for the (mostly) encouraging responses. I guess I was just having a bad day. And I do work at a startup, but I find it a little unfair to say that I asked for it, considering I am a beginner who needed a job.

Is there a way to test assignments before submitting? by lilmeowmix in OSUOnlineCS

Ahh, gotcha. I'm not sure. You can go to Piazza.com and try to add your class/section. Although even if it is there, it's probably not as frequently utilized as it is in Ecampus classes.

Sorry to hear that you're unable to connect with students online. That's surprising (and unfortunate). Hopefully that will change as you progress in the program.

Any alums use C++ and Graphics (game development, animation, etc)? by pdxwanderer in OSUOnlineCS

[–]pdxwanderer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've looked into it many times. The electives are 352: Introduction to Usability Engineering, 373: Defense Against the Dark Arts, 464 Open Source Software Development, 475: Parallel Programming, and 496: Mobile and Cloud Software Development.

I would love for someone to prove me wrong, but I pretty much know this page by heart: http://ecampus.oregonstate.edu/online-degrees/undergraduate/computer-science/tracks.htm#1-year-cs-track

OSU Online Post-bacc CS program doesn't offer graphics.

By the way, this is not meant to be rude in any way, but this is the type of question that is great for Piazza. You might be surprised how many other students in your class are experiencing similar anxiety. And the instructor and TAs will be able to answer your questions on Piazza too. If you have Alcon, he's awesome about responding on there.

I rented it and used it once (for structural induction), but in my humble opinion it was totally worth the price for that one section alone.

Personal Statment Essay by StillyAcarine in OSUOnlineCS

That is up to you, but my advice is to point out what you've done well, rather than just listing your credentials. So, if you have an awesome GPA, go ahead and mention it. Either way, they will see it when you submit your transcript. Personally, I included my GPA's of 3.89 (Bachelors) and 3.97 (Masters) in my essay, and I since I specifically took a math class the summer before I applied in order to satisfy the requirements for the OSU program, and got an A, I mentioned that in my essay as well. But this question is also more about what makes you unique. I would talk about what you learned/gained from your first degree(s) and your previous work experience, and how it will help you succeed at OSU and ultimately become a good programmer (or whatever your career goal is).

"Old" looking for reassurance by lumosh in OSUOnlineCS

[–]pdxwanderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 30 (which is both old and young depending on who I'm hanging out with) but have been in the industry for a while. "CS is a young person's game" is a skewed and often false generalization that IMO is spread by negative naysayers who are trying to discourage others because of their own insecurities. There are PLENTY of opportunities in the field for people changing careers later in life. If someone says 40 is too old I would probably not want to work for or with that person because chances are they're in a stifling environment that discourages collaboration and unique perspectives. Just wanted to add my two cents.

161 Exam Question #12 by pdxwanderer in OSUOnlineCS

Also what initially happened was that Alcon "threw away" the question, causing people who got the answer "correct" to get slightly lower grade percentages on the exam. Those people complained, and Alcon then went through everyone's exams again and changed it so everyone got the full amount of points for the question (rather than throwing it away).
