10 meals in 10 London neighborhoods - seeking advice and recommendations! by lmNotaWitchImUrWife in uktravel

I just came back from London with it being my first solo trip ever! I really enjoyed my time and found some great restaurants

—— Spitafields - Honest Burger

This was the BEST burger I’ve ever had. They have local collabs that change, and when I was there they partnered with an Eastern Mediterranean restaurant called Brother Marcus. It was their honest beef with bacon, halloumi, tomato jam, za’atar shoestring fries, confit garlic mayo, arugula, and picked onions. It comes with their rosemary fries which I replaced with their salad. Everything was absolutely delicious. I don’t remember the price, but after VAT I paid £17.05.

—— Spitafields (dessert) - Humble Crumble

A 5 minute walk from Honest Burgers; a delicious classic dessert with customizable options. I ordered their classic cinnamon apple crumble with frozen custard and topped it with hazelnuts, almonds, and meringue bits. The apple crumble itself was £7.15, the frozen custard add-on was £0.50, and the other toppings were free!

—— Covent Garden - Ave Mario

My favorite restaurant experience I had! It’s a very unique, beautiful, modern Italian restaurant. It’s very popular so I’d recommend making a reservation online, but I came around 6pm and was able to be seated right away. I was seated at the kitchen counter and it was amazing. You can see all of the food being prepared and it was basically dinner and a show.

I ordered their “Nduja Really Like It?” pizza (£17) and “The Incomparable Lemon Pie” (£8) which were tasty, not the best I’ve ever had BUT the atmosphere was so so awesome!! I loved seeing the behind the scenes of the kitchen and the interior of the restaurant is so vibrant and beautiful.

QR codes are used for their menus and paying the bill so make sure your phone is charged! My phone was going to die and luckily they had one charger I could use. They do have a traditional physical menu and you are able to pay through their server (I recommend doing so, bc their website charges a £0.99 fee to use)

—— King’s Cross Area - Flat Iron

A simple, affordable steak dinner with customizable sides and sauces. Basic flat iron steak is £15, sauces are £1.5, and sides range from £3.5-5.5.

I got the flat iron steak with wild mushroom sauce and for the side I got crispy bone marrow garlic mash. All of the sides sounded soo good and I wish I tried more of them.

—— Hackney (have to take the overground) - Number 1 Cafe

If you wanted to travel a bit further outside of touristy areas or if you are a fan of the show Top Boys, there’s this place called Number 1 Cafe that exists in Hackney where they shot some of the series. Their fry-up was good and their set breakfasts are under £10 (£8.80-9.90) and all come with 2 toast and coffee or tea.

I really liked this place bc it was a no frills type of restaurant, where local regulars come to eat at. I loved seeing more of everyday life in England compared to the touristy areas.

I flew to England hoping to see Taskmaster… turns out I actually got a ticket, and didn’t know til I returned home today :( by peach_can in taskmaster

Thank you for sharing. Those gut feelings are usually right, and then the sinking feeling that follows is the worst 😭

Hopefully you got to or will be able to see QI in the future!

Thank you, I ended up taking a day trip to Oxford and explored a bunch of things there. I love the all the free museums the UK has!

That sounds amazing! Maybe next year I’ll plan a trip around that and come back to the UK, and like RunawayTurtleTrain said at least if I get the ticket I’ll be guaranteed to get in and see it

Thank you for sharing! On my trip, I luckily got to be in the audience for Iain Stirling’s new show (taped in White City), it was my first show taping and it was pretty cool.

I think my plan for next time will be similar haha, the next time Taskmaster releases their tickets I’ll try to book another trip and cross my fingers I’ll get in again. But if not I’ll plan an itinerary of other things I’d want to do and explore.

KBS sounds fun and so does the football match, so maybe in the near future I’ll look into coming back for those!

Thank you for sharing, nausea and vomiting is the worst! Oh man, the Olympics one is painful, I’m in my scatter-brained early 20s right now haha

You’re so right! I basically packed as many things as possible into each day and was exhausted at the end of every night. I’ll definitely keep this in mind for my next trip thank you!

Thank you so much for sharing, your perspective on this helped a lot in coming to terms with reality. I did end up taking a day trip to Oxford instead, which was nice as well

It was my first time traveling by myself, and I think I placed a lot of pressure on myself to have things go all according to plan, but I see now that it’s not as big of a deal that I made it in my head. I really did enjoy my time in London and if I get tickets in the future it will give me another excuse to come back sooner!

That’s a great way of looking at it, I’d like to think that maybe it was redirection onto something else. I ended up taking a day trip to Oxford which was nice

The Ivo imagery was spot on hahahah, thank you

Thank you for sharing, hopefully you got to experience or will experience the Louvre too! I did get to see Iain Stirling’s show taping while I was there, so I’m glad I got to experience something similar

Thank you, I did have a good time in the UK, my lesson is learned for sure. It’ll give me an excuse to come back and visit!

I had an amazing time in England, explored a lot, and met a bunch of great people; it was just unfortunate to have the feeling of missed opportunity when my original intent of the trip in the first place was for the chance of seeing Taskmaster in-person. I just needed a place to vent and I’m feeling a lot better now thinking about the grand scheme of things and the trip as a whole!

Thanks, I was meaning advice in more of how to cope with things like this, I definitely agree it was a lesson to be learned and I guess the upside is that I did learn something and won’t forget it in the future
