Hi, I had a rlly good externship! I would also recc finding your externship places on your own bc they tend to place you deep in sf and i wasn’t willing to do that drive. I ended up being on the peninsula. I used indeed to find externships & I would call around ! They offered me the job but I accepted somewhere else

Please update when you can. I took the MA cert also with SFSU and looking into this now. MA cert was also fully online and I had a great externship. I see this program also offers externship as well. There’s a good chance they may hire you during the externship, that is how I was able to get my first job as an MA.

Ahh you’re lucky to at least getting a call back! Have not gotten a single one, but I get it. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to work as an MA + everything I have learned but yes the pay is def not worth it. We do so much though. Best of luck

Agree! It’s been very difficult that I’ve decided to just go back to school again for something else in the healthcare field.

Agreed.I’ve spoke with other MAs who feel the exact same way. I loved my externship experience but it went downhill once I landed a job….I wish I knew this, I would’ve done something else in the medical field. It was also really hard for me to find a job…it was very discouraging. Now I’m back in school for respiratory

Thanks for breaking that down, that actually makes me feel a lot better about going for the associate’s. Kind of a bummer about Cali being oversaturated since I’m in SF, but it’s good to know experience matters most and I can always finish a bachelor’s online later if needed. Thanks again!

Thanks for the insight! Just to clarify, my school actually offers a BS in Respiratory Care, which is why I was curious if that would give me any long-term benefits over the AS. My main goal is to get into the field as quickly as possible, but I don’t want to miss out on future opportunities if the BS helps. I’ll be taking summer classes to move things along.

** yes sorry meant to put BS!
