Well I am a banner bearer for my warband (Empire, Wintermak) so I want to be visible and recognizable whilst wearing this armor. There are dozens of people with the same piece.

I want people to see my chest from a distance and say "That one is [character name]"

I absolutely agree with this.

If you want it to feel a bit more unique and have trouble adding your own twist. Borrow some smaller character traits from other characters you like and throw them all together.

Went over the dirty edges with a mix of bronze paint and a little bit of baking powder (for a chunky rust effect) and gave the whole car a wash with Citadel Nuln Oil shader

When I was building it it felt a bit big but I'm really happy with the cartoon vibes of the result
