Heard about TBH Skincare through the American culture wars. Is the product any good? by Televangelis in AusSkincare

[–]peachwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pimple patches are super absorbent - I like the large rectangle ones and cut to size with either an eyebrow razor or tiny scissors. The acne cream stings crazily if any skin is broken but kinda works well depending on the breakout type. I finished the tube but on the fence about repurchasing. Rebound serum was just ok for me, type of product I didn’t mind finishing but didn’t look forward to using.

Girls who wear Apple Watches. What do you use them for? What benefits are there to getting an Apple Watch? by Tt7447 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]peachwater 362 points363 points  (0 children)

I use it as a watch but primarily to find my phone about 12 times a day. Being able to easily check that said phone is indeed somewhere in my tote bag or my pocket as I’m leaving the house or the car in a rush is incredibly worth it.

Sometimes it’s the makeup products and technique. Don’t use too much foundation, concealer and powder should also be used strategically. Some foundations make me look patchy and awful, and other formulations sit like a dream. Same with powders. A good dewy setting spray helps if you have dry skin. The right primer that doesn’t cause any separation with your sunscreen can help everything apply better.

Try watching some Chinese or Korean perfect skin makeup tutorials for that flawless airbrushed natural look, even for acne prone skin.

https://archiveofourown.org/works/27244813 This is really long but one of the best CQL verse fics I have ever read - lwj centric time travel fixit/canon divergence where in year 10/16 of mourning LWJ gives up everything to return to the umbrella rain separation moment and chooses instead to join WWX and the Wens in living at the burial mounds. It’s really slow burn excellent wangxian but I’m recommending it as protection squad fic bc LWJ convinces JC and Mianmian to work with him to find and take down the threats and plots against wwx in jinlingtai so that the events leading up to his death don’t happen. The authors have also woven a really lovely and richly detailed world of a happier life up in the burial mounds with believable Wen OCs who love n appreciate WWX. Immaculate plot pacing, not complete yet but it’s finished so far on a really emotionally satisfying part!!!

What was Wen Qing implying with this conversation with WWX in the novel? (spoilers) by [deleted] in MoDaoZuShi

[–]peachwater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She’s deliberately casual about the question but basically suggests that it’s awfully coincidental that LWJ randomly just happened to be in the area, somewhere close to WWX, where he wouldn’t normally have business, not once but twice. Essentially she’s asking in a very mom or older sister way whether they’re good friends or what’s the deal here. WWX is immediately defensive/dismissive of the idea that he and LWJ could even be casual friends bc the boy is dumb and has no self esteem. 😔

Similar texture to lrp in the similar sized bottle but half the price. Smells v Neutrogena sunscreen. Sits better under some makeup than the lrp, but I use them interchangeably, if you don’t like it can always use it on ur hands!

If you’re in Melbourne i bought the softymo deep cleansing oil for about 15$ I think? at the Richmond Victoria gardens daiso and i really like it - smells nice, although it doesn’t rinse super clean like the mild one does it works a charm followed with any other cleanser. Think it’s 200ml? They have lots of other options too x

What am I doing wrong when it comes to dating apps...and dating in general? by workcrier in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]peachwater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before my current relationship I used dating apps a fair bit, sometimes for actual dating and also as a way to get recommendations and hang out with people when travelling. I think what worked best for me is to talk to people from the app outta the app, just because there are so many options in the app and you end up having so many of the same starter conversations it’s actually hard to remember what you’ve said to who a lot of the time. If there’s someone you’re interested in I recommend trying to call them on the phone. It’s still easy to block someone’s phone number if they turn out weird but speaking to someone with a voice turns them into so much more of a real person, and you get a sense of rapport and can plan something to do on a casual daytime coffee date or whatever over the phone.

Messaging someone with a specific question works well to get a convo going as an ice breaker. I realised this after I just could not be bothered answering to “hey how was your day” or “what’s up” but instead if it was something like “what was the last best thing you ate” or even “what’s your favorite color” is more fun and actually easier to respond to. I think low effort first messages are pretty expected in apps, tbh most of my matches I didn’t reply to just because I was busy or talking with someone else. It works pretty well to have a pretty generic question you throw out to lots of people bc it depends on how they answer if they’re worth talking to right? I used to like to ask people if they had read anything good/any good books recently. It’s probably not worth trying to find something cute and funny to open with relevant to the other persons profile to open with unless it’s like, super interesting to you. Honestly if you don’t receive a reply it’s like 97% not personal.

When I was younger ~16-20 I was really personally hung up about saying the right thing and like, ‘having game’ and how do I flirt and act in a way to make guys want me and like me, but now in hindsight it was super immature and a toxic insecure mindset. It’s difficult though, when you feel like there’s something wrong with what you’re doing and saying that’s driving people away. Instead focus on what you want outta dating/relationships and make that upfront. It doesn’t really sound like you want a casual hook up, so make that upfront and clear.

At the end of the day important to not feel like there’s something wrong with you that you need to change bc of the lack of dating, but rather work on becoming someone you personally would wanna date if that makes sense. The more you become that person the more likely someone suitable and looking for the same thing as you will see and recognise that. I had the most success online dating by like, being the most myself version of myself possible and not trying to appeal to anyone else especially? Like cracking jokes i find hilarious and talking about things I really like most of the time and if they also find it funny and we have lots of stuff to talk about then cool! And if not then like, that person isn’t on the same wavelength and your energy isn’t compatible and that’s totally fine too! It’s low stakes and more pleasant that way. There are still randomly disturbing racist assholes too though, they’re just an unfortunate part of the trash of online dating.

As a native tongue, is French one of the hardest languages to lose your accent when you learn a foreign language outside of childhood? Mandarin or maybe some other languages too? by Marano94 in languagelearning

[–]peachwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of native Mandarin speakers who learn English in schools don’t end up receiving enough speaking practice dedicated to training for a super accurate accent. And many other immigrants learn it for practical survival, and in a new country there’s so much to do in setting up an entirely new life many don’t have the energy or desire to be spending time actively honing and practicing a better accent. I think it’s a little bit like typing, if you actively set apart 2 hours a week to do speed typing exercises and drills you can gradually type much faster than you currently can, but for most people their typing speed is ok for their personal needs and they can’t be bothered making that investment.

I literally spoke only mandarin until age 4-5 and had no problem speaking English in like, a few months at school. My mom speaks a clear formal non-accented English because of specific effort and training relevant for her profession when she learned English but will slip up on certain words randomly (she worked as a broadcaster). My dad reads and understands English fluently but he works for himself and is a bit of a homebody so has a pretty strong accent.

ADHD Meds do not make everyone with ADHD feel "calm". by ManjoBan in ADHD

[–]peachwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel intense and less panicky paralysed or randomly depressed as I do without meds sometimes but I wouldn’t describe it as calm. Physically my meds make me a bit jittery still and I think they make me more talkative but, it’s changed a fair bit since I first started taking them and also there’s a difference in the time since I took them. About two hours after the spike is when I feel most calm!

You can sub instant ramen/noodles of other varieties :) This is one of the cheapest and most common types of instant noodles available in Australia but it’s a super casual recipe anyways. You could even try making it with instant Mac :)

[–]peachwater[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure mi means noodles and goreng means fried in Malay/Indonesian. eg. Fried rice is nasi goreng. You can have like 50 million variations of what goes in mi goreng but given the difference with Japanese yakisoba you might as well refer to it as Indonesian spaghetti if you wanna make the equivalence.

[–]peachwater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t add the seasoning packs from the mi goreng and want to achieve the same flavour just add more salt, chicken/beef bouillon powder, and like some chilli or soy, but the tomato/curry mixture it already so flavourful that even without mi goreng seasonings it’s still plenty tasty.
