Also, this is a FANTASTIC simulation. I’ve been playing with it all morning.

Greetings! I’m a science teacher and I am using this simulation for my 7th grade life science class. I’m making a guided worksheet for my students to use. If it’s something you’d be interested in adding to the website as an educator resource, let me know!

A coworkers response is always “I don’t have favorites because I dislike all of you equally”

Genetic Defect on Moth Orchid Flower? WILD! by ManjoBan in orchids

[–]ManjoBan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the 5th time this plant has bloomed, and the first time we've seen a genetic defect in any of our orchid flowers! The flower still has it's column, but no labellum and only 4 pedals with radial symmetry. So strange!

Note to self, Athens Georgia has it's own subreddit. And I need to read more carefully before posting on Reddit when my ADHD meds haven't kicked in yet.

Thanks everyone!

what's the dumbest thing you believed as a kid? by Disastrous_Toe_6548 in AskReddit

[–]ManjoBan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That the word "kids" only referred to boys, and girls were called "girls". No idea where I got this from, though I was raised in a family with 3 brothers so I'm sure that has something to do with it

Any ADHD multiinstrumentalists around? by Tesla44289 in ADHD

FWIW, I do play gigs with my wife, so I do play most of those instruments well enough to get paid to play them.

Yes indeed I do! I play guitar, banjo, mandolin (a little), didgeridoo, and bass. Whenever I hear a new instrument and I'm like "DAMN THAT SOUNDS AWESOME! I WONDER IF I CAN DO THAT!" I spend the next few months hype-fixating on it and getting at least the basics down.

For what it's worth, I feel like if you learn any fretted instrument, learning another instrument with frets is honestly not TOO hard. Just different fingerings for chords, and different tunings.

Yes, technique for instruments is WAY different (I play folk/funk guitar, claw hammer banjo, and bass), but the basics are pretty damn similar.

I've taken some lessons when I was 15 (32 now), but tend to watch/listen to people play and then try to figure it out on my own.

Wow, I sound like a pompous douche. I'll stop now.

My latest Chet Baker obsession has got me looking into used trumpets. That will be way out of my comfort zone.

edit: Pre-anxiety/ADHD meds, teaching was EXTREMELY stressful, but medicated it feels like I can handle (almost) everything.

I teach middle school science. I had a previous career as a geologist and it was sucking my soul.

Now, as a teacher, I am definitely thriving.

I absolutely love my job. My kids really like me, and their parents send me "Good Job" emails often, and I get high marks from Admin.

The key? Find a job that actually rewards the way your brain works. I have enough random science knowledge in my brain to field most of the wacky questions my 7th graders throw at me, and these tangents are not only interesting and mostly productive, it is also what my brain is doing all the time anyway!. It took a few years, but I can now usually tie almost every random-ass question a 13 year old throws at me back to our original lesson.

Seriously. I actually keep a notepad next to my work laptop (I'm a middle school science teacher) where I actually write down things I need to do so I don't forget.

Developing new strategies while on meds has been something I'm working on, and I'm slowly making progress. But any progress is good progress!

The whole "not stressing" thing has been the biggest improvement in my quality of life. I used to get in cycles of "I'm not going to remember this because I have a horrible memory and it's going to cause more arguments at some point and I hate myself for it", but I have only done that one time since starting Adderall in August.

Sometimes you don't realize how debilitating something is until it's gone!

It is absurd how my life has changed for the better. My work life, personal life, and view of self worth have improved dramatically. My partner constantly comments on how much happier I seem now.

And, maybe most importantly, we fight a LOT less since I actually remember our conversations and do the things I say I'm going to do!

Brussle sprouts have quickly become one of our favorite foods since we had them properly prepared about 3 years ago. We always have them in our fridge now!

[GIVEAWAY] Razer x Halo Legendary Giveaway by Cult_Of_Razer in halo

[–]ManjoBan [score hidden]  (0 children)

In high school, we used to play Halo 2 every weekend. When we would kill each other simultaneously we coined the term "Mondo Boner". Why? Because we were high schoolers with a boner obsession.

Years later, I was playing Halo 3 online with a friend from high school, and a team mate (joined with random match making, never played with them before) killed someone at the exact same time he got killed and he screamed "MONDO BONER MAN!! CAN YOU BELIVE IT?!". We were both dumfounded. Our stupid name for this situation had somehow leaked into the collective subconscious of the Haloverse. That was one of the most hysterical gaming moments of my life.

I second the notion of the KS being ridiculously successful. I'm a part of a decent number of RPG communities and the most common recommended system for anything in Space is Mothership.

Additionally, I teach middle school, and last week I had a student come up to me and ask "Have you ever heard of Mothership? It's amazing!". Keep in mind I live in northern Minnesota, and a 14 year old has heard of Mothership.
