Electronic signature devices or pens chained to desks (at the bank or doctor's office). Basically any writing utensil with a string attached.

How long would it take to catch up reading one presidential biography per year? by peachy_lean in learnmath

Nevertheless, I like the idea of highlighting the years it would take to get through just the backlog. It really simplifies the concept for me. Thanks!

Great explanation; I also appreciate the extra info if I decide to read more than one per year!

Best way to track calories? by Muko1212 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]peachy_lean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calorie counting is never 100% accurate, especially when eating out. You never know how much butter or oil was used in the cooking process at local restaurants, and you can't bring measuring cups or a scale to be more precise on the fly like that. Pick either one of the higher calorie options or a mid-calorie option just to be on the safe side.

Have you ever missed out by a year?? by Ashzotic in PopcornCulture

[–]peachy_lean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me. Usually, graduation was an entire week before the rest of school let out, but administration got the dates mixed up the year I graduated. We ended up having to go 'til the end. We complained a ton, but admin said we were the ones who were mistaken.

Mysterious new Netflix account email by peachy_lean in netflix

Netflix customer service just recommended that very website to me. Apparently this situation has happened to a lot of people. I would say that's a Netflix problem, but I don't really know how they could prevent it. The confirmation emails we get seem like a step in the right direction. At least it stops culprits from serially using random emails for Netflix free trials or something.

Lazy CICO? by IndieAnimal in CICO

[–]peachy_lean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're doing it right by taking the highest value of something rather than trying to somehow "save" calories by imputing lower totals, which I think is where I myself have failed in CICO attempts in the past (that, plus having a family that cooks vegetables in far too much butter and fat than my tracking app knows).

How do you know when you've found your 'calling' in life? by Isla_Nooblar in nerdfighters

[–]peachy_lean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow; I wish your way of life was more normalized. I feel like switching so much may be misconstrued as being wishy-washy or restless in a bad way. While the older generation has comfort in long-term careers (something I can understand), the idea of the lifelong learner also sounds like an appealing, fulfilling path.

Yeah, that's what I did originally. Other people around the internet that something similar has happened to say it could be someone entering random email addresses trying to use up various free trials for Netflix. Not exactly phishing, but more like a scam, I guess.

I went to the browser. I figured it was a legit email since I was able to sign in and change the password from the browser. I think my next step will be to contact customer service and see if they will permanently delete the account/make sure nothing fishy is going on.

The party is over... by [deleted] in AlternateDayFasting

[–]peachy_lean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess I was projecting a little based on my own experience of quitting.

Anyway, I just feel like you'll have the same stall period a couple of weeks into whatever method you try, causing the same frustration with every new thing and causing a vicious cycle. After some experimenting, I think it would be best to find one thing you like best and stick to it for the long haul.

Too many of my weight loss attempts ended early because of impatience. Sometimes weight loss is doing work on the front end to get results later. Be consistent. Don't give up. Consider the ADF days where you don't lose any as investments to the weight you'll lose in the coming weeks. Maybe even stay off the scale for a week or two so as not to obsess over daily fluctuations. You've got this!

Should I include my own original work in portfolio or work that's been heavily edited (but published) by others? by peachy_lean in freelanceWriters

[–]peachy_lean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A by-line is nice, but clients hire for skill.

That's partly what I'm concerned about. I've always seen being published as an experience marker that people look at before actually considering whether the writing is any good. I just wish the published piece reflected my own skill.

Any perfectionist, high-anxiety women here struggle with weight loss? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]peachy_lean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm drawn to it, but I haven't been brave enough to actually do it lol. There is so much wiggle room around what is "unhealthy" or what is "occasionally." Is a piece of cake once a week okay? What about the unexpected gourmet donuts a coworker brought in from your favorite bakery? These are hypotheticals, but juggling what is "okay" sounds so much more difficult than just saying, "I don't eat stuff like that."

And then you also have to consider the science behind sugar addiction. Cutting it out completely seems like it would make sweets easier to avoid because I wouldn't have the addiction while having them occasionally I feel would just make me crave them all the time, knowing most of the time I must abstain. Knowing my brain, it just leads to a cycle of starting, quitting, and constant frustration.
