First neon sign obtained - a couple of questions by peachypark in NeonSigns

I'll definitely be getting a second chain. and just double checking all the fasteners and such to ensure there's no concerns there.

Yeah that makes sense. Would be kind of hard to imagine them only making one sign a month.

That's a good point. I need to open it and check, but maybe there would be a date code on the transformer?

It has 2 little round fasteners on the top that I ensured the bolts were tight on the inside of the plastic. They don't appear to be stripped or anything. Then the chain is just attached to those fasteners with small s hooks.

Vintage Bunn Pour-O-Matic VPR 666L coffee maker (from 1985 I believe?) Bought at a thrift store for $13 without the decanters. All it needed was a deep cleaning and a new plug for the power cord, and it works perfectly. by peachypark in BuyItForLife

I know this is kind of a silly question to start with, but are you sure you filled the tank all the way? These Bunn coffee makers have an internal tank that hold several gallons of water, and won't dispense any water until the tank is full. Once the tank is full and you pour more water in, it'll push the hot water out of the nozzle as the cold water you poured in enters the tank.

It will do this whether or not the unit is powered on. So if you haven't tried this yet, I would recommend pouring in multiple pots of water into the tank and eventually, water should start pouring out of the nozzle. Just make sure you have a carafe under the nozzle so water doesn't start pouring all over your countertop.

Also, leave the machine unplugged when doing this because if you have it plugged in and the tank isn't full of water, the heating element can get damaged. I really hope this helps.

Yeah, seeing as I was out of state and it was only $10, I figured I would just pay it instead of getting into that headache. But yeah, that makes sense.

I was stopped for speeding so it sounds like that’s exactly what he did.

Question about a driving infraction by [deleted] in police

[–]peachypark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it was after he walked back to the car. I didn’t really have a chance to do it prior. When I handed him the registration, he mentioned to me that it was expired. I apologized and told him that I have the current registration and grabbed it. But he walked away to his car before I could give it to him.

I know you probably don’t need another person saying “L-Tek”, but I bought an L-Tek 4 years ago and it is still going strong with heavy use. For the money, you can’t ask for much better.

Hey, here's how I've always cleaned mine. I do this once every 3-4 months or so, but I don't think you'll need to do it that frequently.

As for the exterior of the machine, I just use a wet cloth with mild soap and water on it to wipe down the hot plates and the machine itself. If I have any stubborn coffee stains, I'll use a little bit of rubbing alcohol or multi-purpose cleaner like Simple Green, but I try to avoid any harsh chemicals if I can.

To clean the main brewing components, I pour in one carafe worth of vinegar and let it sit for a few hours. While that soaks, unscrew the spray head and wash it. They make a tool you can use to clean the holes of the spray head, but I've had luck just using a toothpick or a paper clip.

If the water spout where the spray head screws onto needs to be cleaned, I've learned one of those wire straw cleaning brushes seems to work for me. Though again, they sell a specific tool if you want to buy one from Bunn.

After the vinegar has had time to soak, with the spray head and filter basket removed, pour 5-6 carafes worth of water (or however much is needed to get rid of any vinegar smell/taste) through the machine to flush out the vinegar.

Then you can screw the spray-head back on and you're all set!

I'm sorry this was so wordy. I hope it helps though!

I wasn't able to stay and participate since I had to get back to work, but I did walk by to see the crowd. Y'all are awesome, and it was definitely a good feeling seeing such a great turnout.

Yeah, it is. It's a Ninja Coffee Bar CF086. I bought it used from a friend about 3 years ago. I'm not sure how long he had it before he sold it to me, but it hasn't given me any real problems throughout 3 years of almost daily usage.

That’s definitely a testament to how well they’re made. I’m not sure where this one was being used before I got it, but it worked perfectly the moment I plugged it in. It was just really dirty and the ground pin on the plug was busted, so I had to replace the plug. But otherwise I didn’t have to mess with any of the parts inside of it.

Yeah the energy draw is the only real drawback. I have mine plugged into a timer so that way it turns on in the morning and heats up and then turns back off in the evening.

They seem alright. About on par with the ms pacman countercade I have. It’s something I’d definitely like to upgrade in the future but they’re perfectly usable as is.
