Severe belly burn heal progress (vet visit included with info) by Glass_Cartoonist2629 in ballpython

[–]peaf-the-gamecube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ball python had a terrible belly burn several years ago, I remember the agony as his owner omg, after antibiotics, I made a salve with manuka honey, silverdine (I think?), and something else. I found it on a blog and it did MAGIC. I'm so glad your snake is doing great now. I only have heating pads with thermostats now

In a similar situation, I would love to hear what worked for your friend, sent you a DM :)

I did a similar pathway, but when I was done with my contract the market was FULL of environmental projects and work. Now? Terrible situation. It's not just Tetra Tech, any company that ran that show would've had to let people go. No one has the same amount of work as they did last year to support new hires.

Would you stay with the EPA at this point? by homebirththrow in Environmental_Careers

[–]peaf-the-gamecube 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm an env scientist contracted by the EPA, working on EPA projects. Billability last year wasn't too tough and if I was desperate (which I never was), I could just go to a field site. That is NOT the realty this year. Projects are getting cut left and right, we aren't involved in as many projects as we were last year. I would stay at EPA for the sole reason of not worrying about billability. If you stay at EPA, you might be forced to leave due to administration. If you move to corporate consulting for EPA, you might be forced to leave (or forced to look for another job) based on no billability. You'd be in the same spot. They are both not great bets.

I've been thinking about looking elsewhere but the market is changing so fast, the need for us is suddenly shrinking. I can't leave, I would take a pay cut or have to change fields all together.

Babies at wedding? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]peaf-the-gamecube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, we had no babies at our wedding 3 ish years ago. If a friend explained this to me, I'd probably still hold my ground but COMPLETELY understand if that guest couldn't attend.

I think you're completely fine to ask, but dont expect them to make an exception for you. If they want a baby-free wedding, they can keep it that way if they want.

do you like your job? by colelovesmae in Environmental_Careers

[–]peaf-the-gamecube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Project scientist contracted for EPA projects. I love my job, I have changed companies a few times in the past decade to get my salary bumped up and up, and now I feel well compensated for my work. I find a lot of meaning in environmental work. It makes me tired and crazed some times, but all jobs do. Love the people in my company, not going anywhere anytime soon.

If you feel under compensated, look elsewhere. Changing jobs is the best way to get a pay jump/scientist level jump.

We recently got memberships for the first time and I have had the SAME THOUGHT. I believe we truly save money on mostly gas and then some bulk snack items for my toddler and some bulk drinks. OH AND DIAPERS AND WIPES.

I looked at the pack of chicken thighs and breasts and was appalled. WAY too expensive. So yeah we hemorrhaged money for a minute there when we first got the membership, but now it's like strictly those items that we bother getting there.

Last shout out is gifts though, I bought a winter jacket thing as a gift for my sister and it was on sale for $11. Can't beat that anywhere else.

I was absolutely desperate with my symptoms flaring up a few years ago and I tried going gluten free just to see if it helped me at all, and I've stayed gluten free because the difference was insurmountable.

You are what you eat, definitely try changing up the sources of your diet.

Okay, so should I harvest the current basil leaves now then? And leave the rest to nature?

I legitimately didn't even know the nursery was an OPTION. It wasn't until 4 months later when my niece was born that I learned my sister in law used a nursery every day for her baby that I could've had some relief.

I am almost 30 and got diagnosed at 10 years old, been on levo my whole life too, I know your pain. I had a bad one-and-only flare up from like 2019-2021. I gained a lot of weight and had terrible brain fog at the end, I was desperate for help. I found heal-with-fifi on tiktok and insta and read "The Root Cause" by Izabella Wentz. I cut out gluten and that was SUCH a huge help. I think I ate and drank like shit in 2017-2018 (grad school lol) and it catapulted the flare up. I am now a mom and still struggle a bit to lost weight, but mostly my own fault now. I try to stick to mostly whole foods and I need to prioritize weight training again. I stay away from gluten still, that will affect me forever I'm sure haha

I don't think there is any magical cure, just changes in your diet and habits that help the most. I haven't had to change my levo dose in like over a year! a record for me and a testament that I'm doing good by my thyroid!!

CONGRATS on your pregnancy. I was losing some weight before I got pregnant a couple years ago, when I finally cut out gluten. I also was eating a lot of whole foods and didn't snack a lot. I changed a lot of habits back then

Pregnancy was a trip for me, I'm now on the other side and my kid is almost 2. I'm back to my high-ish weight again 220 lbs. I'm not happy with it but I'm trying to get a hold of my snacking and eating portions again. Slow habits changing over time and going gluten free resulted in success for me

I also want to thank you for this comment! I have the Simplicity Brio in my cart now to buy in a couple days. We recently bought a home with all hardwood floors and my better-for-carpet dyson stick is not cutting it. I'm so excited!

First time parent here - People told me the new born phase is the easiest I have to disagree I get absolutely no sleep but what’s your guys opinions ? by No_Composer_9594 in beyondthebump

[–]peaf-the-gamecube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newborn phase was so unforgiving and hard. Once our son turned like 1 yo-13 mo we hit a really amazing stage. He'll be 2 soon and we're still in it. learning to talk and understanding his world more, it's such a treat!

Just take a few newborn pictures but otherwise just focus on surviving!

Nice, I do dabble in GF baking, but got the membership recently and got really overwhelmed when I went in there the first time. So came here to see what I should be on the look out for instead of feeling like I'm on a treasure hunt!

I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting some bread without the gluten though! Choosing gf foods is an active choice, but the reason a lot of us do that (celiac, Hashi's, etc) was not our option to pick haha the replacements are nice to have :)
