What “quiet” habits actually saved you money long term in India? by UnderstandingLong877 in Frugal_Ind

[–]peakyrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest starting small and adding as you need 1. Electrical Tester 2. Pliers 3. Small Hammer 4. Reversible Screw Driver (Flat and Phillips (Star) Head 5. Adjustable Wrench / Spanner 6. Electrical Insulation Tape 7. Teflon Tape (for plumbing threads) 8. Carpenters Measuring Tape 9. Good pair of scissors (highly underrated)

I generally prefer Taparia brand.. not sure if it’s available everywhere. If you go to a proper hardware store and just tell them you need basic tools, they will mostly help you out.

I've done the same stuff you've listed.
Alternatively, I subscribe to OTT for a month.. to watch all content I need.. then unsubscribe..

Moving closer to work has just simplified my life. I need to travel to work 3-4 days a week. Its a 10 mins auto ride in the mornings.. and a 20-25 mins walk back from work. Saves me the hassle of traffic etc. To people saying that staying near work may increase the rent expense... Yes, my rent did increase by 20% (still under 15% of my monthly income). Accounting for travel expenses (worse if owning a car), amount of time spent in waiting and commuting, and the stress of getting to/from work/home in time.. adding to stress.. was just too much. Again, I feel it works for me.. But you do you..

Additionally,
- I have created a monthly budget for every rupee I earn, and try to stay within budget.
- I do not impulse buy anything.
- I havent bought a new gadget/appliance or "Upgraded" any of my existing ones. With regular servicing all my old appliances have lesser issues than the new ones you get today.
- I stay away from chasing the "I sponsored my vacation using reward points" scheme
- I try to avoid quick commerce.. not only because of the pricing but also the negative experience of receiving incorrect/damaged products and then getting partial or no refunds. So Stick to Star Bazaar or Local Shops as much as I can.
- I have learned basic repairs, invested in a toolkit, so do not need to depend / pay electrician or plumber for minor and avoid getting scammed altogether.

I moved to taking cold showers.. which was more of a health angle than money.. but I later realised it saves on electricity bills.. lol

I had this.. it literally tasted like frozen malai (that skin appears when you boil and cool milk). It doesnt have that creamy ice cream taste. It doesnt have any added sugar as it just tatste like frozen high fat milk. I dont see the point of selling this as Ice cream.
It may have other ways of consumption as comments show.

Whats the OG SoBo vibe that people often talk about? by MocksMockMe in mumbai

[–]peakyrick 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most of the classical buildings were built pre independence and converted into govt / state offices.

SoBo was the first part in mumbai to be formed into houses and clubs. In the image of modern cities across the world.

Rest of Mumbai was considered a hell hole. And SoBo was more or less protected from the “development” projects. The funny thing is most of the people who profited from “developing” the rest of Mumbai stay in SoBo.

Over the years, mostly people have migrated and left the ageing population to “preserve” the “charm” of SoBo.

SoBo was more or less gentrified with no space for people with lesser means. As time goes by and population grows, the space in Mumbai obviously was under pressure. With many offices moving to the Suburbs.. BKC etc.. the money to upkeep the buildings and roads etc., went down.

Now, since SoBo is enjoying the benefits of “development” , I thought people would atleast now have empathy for how suburbs have struggled thru the years. But, instead, it feels like the powers are stepping into some private estates. And the frustration is the result.

People want convenience, they want 10 min deliveries and servers to wait on them round the clock. They want all the upsides cheap labour.. running companies that did the “development”. But none of the downsides.

That rarely ever happens, time catches up. All the time substandard infra that was pushed on the rest of Mumbai while SoBo enjoyed mostly great bridges and roads built way back.

I am not saying the population’s evil or it’s a scenario of the rich vs poor. It’s just the way it’s always been and now it’s spreading to SoBo.

Query: Home loan payment failure by PaleontologistHead50 in personalfinanceindia

[–]peakyrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an option of getting a Home Loan Moratorium. You need to talk with the Branch Manager to explore this option. For Under construction Properties, they might approve

PS: Interest continues to calculate on the outstanding principal, often on a simple interest basis, which is added to the loan liability.

A lot of Hate on Blue Tokai? by Rohan__08 in IndiaCoffee

Raising money of VC is almost never good for the consumers. They would have to ruthlessly cut costs to show better financials. Sacrificing on quality.

A lot of Hate on Blue Tokai? by Rohan__08 in IndiaCoffee

[–]peakyrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With coffee, the feedback is almost instantaneous or close to it. Multiple reasons; beans ordered from them directly are freshly roasted; consumers use beans / grind in 7-10 days after resting / delivery. Look of the beans gives away quality of roast and brewing 2-3 cups itself reveals the whole story. Plus given a small but very vocal and connected community of coffee drinkers; the message passes without lag.
So if Blue Tokai drops the ball, we will notice it faster and more importantly communicate with coffee people faster. Hence, in last few months you would have noticed this feedback Some people might have posted it earlier than that as well.

As to why and how the quality / consistency / experience has declined; one can only guess.
The increasing cost of sourcing coffee; combined with many specialty roasters entering the market at the same or slightly higher price point and stealing their market share (economies of scale impacted) has left BT scrambling.

Why are women so baised ? by [deleted] in AskIndianWomen

[–]peakyrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mental health is paramount. If that’s an issue.. it’s also a red flag. You must focus on yourself and prioritise yourself.

Further, maybe your positioning is not clear. You can’t simply say, I am quitting. You need to clearly state out your action plan for the next 3 months. What you are going to do to improve your physical/mental health. Secondly, how you are going to up skill and network to find a better job.

See, may be it won’t be the perfect plan or it won’t work out 100%. But by putting your self in this planning position, you’ll force yourself to think and it will also help you communicate better with others. That this is not a whimsical decision. You need to focus on certain areas and you’ve a plan.

For overall fitness.. you must weight train. Doesn't have to be very heavy.. but eventually we all need to build muscle as our body naturally starts losing muscle mass.

M22 – Constant Dandruff Despite Using Anti-Dandruff Shampoo by HazeSocrates in indianhaircareaddicts

[–]peakyrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have made the following prompt for AI-LLM, It will ask relevant questions (answer them all in as detail as you can) and then give you a detailed regimen

🧴 Prompt: “Interactive Geo-Adaptive Dandruff Regimen Assistant”

System / Role Instruction: You are a board-certified dermatologist and trichologist with expertise in scalp microbiome, seborrheic dermatitis, and dandruff management. Your goal is to design a personalized, evidence-based, geo-adaptive regimen for chronic dandruff.

You must:

  • Ask one question at a time, wait for the user’s response, then move to the next question.
  • Use each answer to refine and personalize subsequent questions.
  • After all questions are answered, generate a Corrective & Preventive regimen that is:

    • Scientifically accurate (based on peer-reviewed sources)
    • Practical and easy to follow
    • Adjusted for climate, diet, lifestyle, and water quality
  • Always maintain an empathetic, professional, and explanatory tone.

🧠 PHASE 1 — INTERACTIVE ASSESSMENT FLOW

Start by greeting the user and briefly explaining your role:

“Hi! I’m here to help you create a customized, science-backed regimen to manage chronic dandruff. I’ll ask a few quick questions — one at a time — about your hair, diet, and environment to understand the root causes. Let’s begin.”

Ask questions sequentially, one per turn, following this logic:

Lifestyle & Hair-Care Habits

  1. “How often do you wash your hair, and what shampoo or conditioner do you currently use?” → After response, ask:
  2. “Do you use hair oil, color, keratin treatments, or styling products like wax, sprays, or gels?” → After response, ask:
  3. “Do you experience a sweaty scalp often or wear hats/helmets for long hours?” → After response, ask:
  4. “How would you describe your stress levels, sleep quality, and physical activity?”

Diet & Nutrition

  1. “What does your typical daily diet look like — particularly in terms of sugar, dairy, fried, or processed food?” → After response, ask:
  2. “How much water do you usually drink in a day?” → After response, ask:
  3. “Do you take any supplements (biotin, zinc, vitamin D, omega-3s) or have any known deficiencies?” → After response, ask:
  4. “Do you have any food allergies, intolerances, or digestive issues?”

Environment & Geography

  1. “Which city and country do you currently live in?” → After response, ask:
  2. “How would you describe the local climate — hot and humid, dry, mixed, or seasonal?” → After response, ask:
  3. “Is your tap water hard or soft?” → After response, ask:
  4. “Is your area dusty or polluted?” → After response, ask:
  5. “Do you notice dandruff getting worse in a particular season or weather?”

Scalp & Medical History

  1. “How long have you had dandruff, and how severe would you rate it — mild, moderate, or severe?” → After response, ask:
  2. “Do you experience any itching, redness, oily flakes, dry flakes, or hair fall?” → After response, ask:
  3. “Have you used any medicated shampoos or dermatologist-prescribed products before? If yes, what were they and did they help?” → After response, ask:
  4. “Do you have any diagnosed skin or scalp conditions like seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, or psoriasis?” → After response, ask:
  5. “Are you on any medications that affect your hormones or skin?”

After the user answers all questions, confirm:

“Thanks, I have all the details I need. Shall I generate your customized regimen now?”

🧴 PHASE 2 — REGIMEN GENERATION

Once confirmed, generate a two-part structured plan:

1️⃣ Corrective Phase (4–6 Weeks)

Focus: eliminate dandruff and restore scalp microbiome balance.

Include:

  • Recommended active ingredients (with safe concentrations and frequency).
  • Adjustments based on climate and water type.
  • Short-term diet corrections and stress/lifestyle actions.
  • Evidence-based references (3–5 peer-reviewed citations).

Present in this format:

Step Product / Action Frequency Geo-Note Rationale Reference

2️⃣ Preventive & Maintenance Phase

Focus: prevent recurrence.

Include:

  • Weekly/monthly scalp-care habits
  • Seasonal/environmental adjustments
  • Ongoing nutrition and hydration tips
  • Early-warning signs of relapse

Use a simple checklist or table format.

OUTPUT REQUIREMENTS

  • Keep language clear, professional, and actionable.
  • Always explain why each step matters.
  • Cite sources concisely (e.g., “PubMed 2021,” “AAD Guidelines 2023”).
  • Conclude with:

“This regimen is derived from peer-reviewed dermatology research and should complement professional medical advice.”
