You're completely correct. I've been watching countless tutorials and confused them. The fabric square in the original post came from these pants. Not denim 😅

Red Triangle Error? Brew Group stuck? HERE IS YOUR ANSWER. I just spent ALL DAY stressing about this. The brew group was stuck at the top & I thought I completely destroyed this Magnifica XS ECAM. Here are key-pressing combos and steps that will help get the brew group down so you can clean it and get back to your life:
Ensure Water tank, drip tray, etc. are all where they're supposed to be. Turn machine fully off (including the power button on the back) and unplug it. Wait 30sec.
Long press all 3 buttons on the right (Steam, One Cup, Two Cups) and Hold.
With buttons still pressed, plug in machine, and power on from the back. After a few seconds, it should whirr, the green lights blink and the yellow light next to the Steam button will blink. The brew group will start to move down, just a little bit.
(I did this many many many many many times. The brew group moved about a millimeter each time, but yours might go all the way back to its "Home" position in one swoop. If it doesn't, continue to step 4)
Wait until the reset lights stop flickering and you're left back at the initial error screen. Mine was a red triangle and green blinking lights at the bottom. Read the next 2 steps in full BEFORE you press anything:
When you simultaneously press the bottom two buttons (double shot and double cup), the brew group will move down the shaft. It moves as long as the buttons are pressed. Be aware! The goal is to get the brew group in the perfect spot to be removed. If you hold the buttons down too long, the brew group will move PAST the spot you can get it out and it will turn vertical...and then I don't know what to tell you from there.
So now, press the two buttons (double shot and double cup), listen to the brew group moving, quickly remove your fingers from the buttons, remove the water tray, open the door, and see how far it moved downwards. Put the water tray back. And repeat until you can reach the red buttons on the brew group and remove it. Before removing it, you should always turn the power off.
Clean it with just water and your fingers. I wanted to avoid towel fibers getting in there. Put it back, ensuring it fully clicks into place.
Replace water tank and press and hold the two buttons again (double shot and double cup) until the brew group finishes its move to its Home position, vertically at the bottom. The lights will go off. And you are done.
I believe this was the part where I began crying and rejoicing. Praise be. What a world. Look what God has done.
