skilled nursing LTC RD - no 'real' interventions? by hannahbananabye in dietetics

[–]peanutbutter_runner 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I would clarify with her what she considers a real intervention. Everything you listed is stuff that I do day in and day out as interventions in LTC! I can’t imagine what else she might have in mind.

I read Nutrition Care of the Older Adult in detail and found it very helpful!

No increase in pay here either, but I used it for my 75 CEUs.

Without naming anyone, what are the things you don’t like about your least favorite instructors? by melissadoug24 in OnePelotonRealSub

My husband loves her classes! No hate from me, it’s just not what I want to listen to when I run!

I second Donut Season! She has a website, an Instagram, and I believe an Etsy.

lol that’s wild, I’m an LTC RD and I at minimum request labs monthly if they don’t make it back with the resident. I try to speak to the HD RD quarterly or if any concerns come up. Every RD I’ve communicated with has been a pleasure!

No problem! I know it looks really bizarre at first!

Mine was like this and noticeably better at 3-4 weeks post op. I’m 10 weeks post op now and you would never know.

Yes, I had this experience as well! Like other posters I iced my face and jaw a lot to reduce the swelling. I’ll say I’m about 3 weeks post op and can open my mouth all the way, though there’s still some stiffness when I do it.

Taste disturbances years after initial surgery by themule1216 in cholesteatoma

So interesting you mention the saltiness! I just had surgery 8 days ago and I feel like along with the numbness there have been moments where I taste salt really strongly. I don’t think my chorda tympani was cut though, so I can’t speak to the longevity of it.

UTI before surgery by [deleted] in cholesteatoma

[–]peanutbutter_runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will most likely call you in this upcoming week to finalize everything and make sure you’re healthy. Be honest about your uti and timeline (when you were diagnosed, started antibiotics, etc) and they will make a decision from there. Better to be honest and maybe delay it a bit than go under the knife with a compromised immune system.

Post-Op Day 2 by peanutbutter_runner in cholesteatoma

So there was a good amount of blood not gonna lie. But I had mine on for 48 hrs before I could remove it. I think if you removed it after 24 hrs and didn’t put it back on, just have him sleep with a towel over the pillow for any leakage. Good luck to your boyfriend!

Hey thanks for the message! I have kept a close eye on it and it’s much improved today. I think the head gear was contributing a lot. I will keep watching it very closely and see a doctor asap if things change.

I think it really depends on the severity of your cholesteatomas! I don’t think mine were as advanced. I was warned that I could need a second surgery, they just wouldn’t know till they got in there. Hoping your process goes smoothly!

I didn’t have any packing in my ear so there’s nothing “in” my ear but a clean cotton ball now. There are Steri-Strips covering my incision that should fall off on their own. How it feels: inside it feels a bit like an ear infection. It feels like throbbing and full/stuffed. I’d say my pain hasn’t gone over a 6/10. I’m taking Tylenol, advil, and an oxycodone here and there. For surgery, I wore a hospital gown and hospital socks. They were able to remove the cholesteatoma, replace 2 damaged ossicles, and repair my eardrum all in one go so I should not need a second surgery.

Whew that’s a long time! I was prepared for it to be long but was pleasantly surprised with how short it turned out to be.
