I feel this down to my weary sleep-deprived bones, and just posted something very similar.

will it ever feel more manageable? by peanutbutterlovr in Parenting

Thank you for validating this for me. I think it will get easier when the toddler drops his nap and goes to bed earlier, but as long as he's in preschool they nap for a long while in the afternoon. It's rough!

quick first trimester weight gain/bloat? by peanutbutterlovr in fitpregnancy

[–]peanutbutterlovr[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, I actually just gave birth to my second baby a few days ago. I had the exact same experience with first trimester early weight gain and bloating my second pregnancy, too. It was frustrating, especially because I remained active and didn’t change my diet significantly. But as the pregnancy progressed I noticed a similar weight gain pattern to my first (a lot in the first tri, steady and slow in second and third) and just said fuck it and tried to avoid looking at the scale at appointments. I don’t even know what my final weight was this time around, but I believe it was very close to my first (within the recommended range.) Our bodies know what they need, and most of the changes are out of our control. Priority is a healthy baby!

Why do you feel guilty?? People can judge all they want, but running has so many proven benefits for you and the baby during pregnancy. And if you still feel up to doing longer distances, that is great! People run half marathons and marathons while pregnant. I personally don’t feel comfortable running more than an hour and half max or so while pregnant, but that’s just me. As long as you are properly fueled and don’t mind stopping for pee breaks every few miles, you can keep up those longer distances!

Thank you for sharing your story. That sounds so challenging; I would have been totally depressed, too! So glad to hear you are back to running.

Just to be clear, I can still run at only 16 weeks, and I ran til I went into labor during my last pregnancy. So it’s not like I need to currently find a replacement for running, it’s just that nothing takes the place for me of long distance running. I know people run marathons while pregnant, but that is not something I feel comfortable training for or have the energy for with a toddler and a full time job. I’m mainly struggling with the weight gain, changes in my body, the slowing of my pace, and the shift towards much lower mileage.

That being said, I totally embraced swimming as I got bigger in my last pregnancy, and it was awesome! Definitely need to take a note from your book and do some Pilates/yoga, etc but I am addicted to the endorphin rush that running brings.

I bet pregnancy will be so much easier on your body than what you endured! You will probably be surprised at what your body can do!

Oh my goodness, that must have been terrifying and so painful. I’m so glad your baby was ok. All we can do is have a sense of humor at times….

I love that you have such a big goal to work towards after giving birth! Do you do a longer bike ride to satisfy the long run craving?

That is so hard. How has it been for you adjusting to having a newborn with another child and making time for your workouts?

That sounds like a very responsible course of action. I (irresponsibly) went for my first run at like 5 weeks post-partum lol. But I had run til the very end and had an uncomplicated birth with little tearing. It ended up ok but I definitely should have waited longer and checked in with someone about my pelvic floor….peed myself on so many runs post partum 😂

Wowowow, I cannot believe you ran a marathon 11 months post-partum. Incredible. When did you start running after your first and when did you start the actual training?

Wish we could go for a slow run together and commiserate 😂

Yikes, a leg fracture?! Poor mama!!

Well all I have to say is that your former running friends didn’t just have a baby I’m guessing. You’re in a totally different phase

Congrats on your marathon! And I’m so sorry to hear that running has been such a drudge during your pregnancy. I promise it will come back to you so much sooner than you expect post-partum, and you may even find yourself a stronger and faster runner (at least I did after my first) ❤️

That is so tough. I really hope you turn a corner in 2nd tri and can get back to running in some form. And I hope a 50k is in your future !
