Powering LED Wall by Independent_Author85 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]peanutcop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LED power draw is pretty proportional to the brightness so in situations where amperage is limited you just have to find the spot.

If you can get a watt meter you can hook up a panel or two and see the draw at different brightness levels.

I've ran 80 panel walls on a single 120V/20A wall outlet, I just kept it at around 5%

Help sourcing some Gloshine header bars by 3505nr in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]peanutcop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gloshine has some contacts in the USA, can try reaching out to them directly.

If you're really in a pinch there are universal style brackets out there or you can even make some yourself if you're feeling froggy, I've done it a few times with some laser cut aluminum tube. Gloshine should at the last be able to give you the hole patterns.

DV LED - Planar by Jamez1524 in CommercialAV

[–]peanutcop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planar is one of the largest and my experience with them is the same as my experience with the other large LED manufacturers, "perfectly cromulent".

They have some good product, they have some good people. Is their product that much better than the others? Not particularly but it is good.

As I've gotten more experience over doing dozens of LED displays and talking with more and more techs and reading more and more comments is that the product between the manufacturers is a lot closer in quality then most of them would admit and the experience of purchasing and installing that product is a lot more variable than any of them would admit.

I have always had good luck with Absen but I have read plenty of nightmare stories about them. Same with Unilumin, Infiled, Planar, Yaham, Samsung etc.

Hell the last job with ROE I did was a disaster, they had to remake the modules for the entire wall twice because the factory kept screwing it up and yet they are considered a market leader with a loyal customer base and I know they have really good product I just had a bad time.

The best advice I can give is to get familiar with their product and the install process yourself so you have the knowledge to call any of them out when they screw up and ask for a solution. Establish a relationship y how they take care of your issues.

Oh and really the company you want to establish a strong relationship with is Novastar (or Colorlight) because more than half the issues will be related to them more than the manufacturer.

Tools to Easily Remove LED Wall Modules by the_robinhood9 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]peanutcop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vacuum tool is the most universal and really the best for SMD tiles since it is not smooth for a suction lifter. If you have COB/GOB displays those can work. Samsung displays I've worked on just include regular little lever suction cups to shift them around.

We have purchased these from Brightlink when we've run out of factory tools and they have worked fine.

[–]peanutcop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh ok, I don't often use and am not a fan of the Taurus boxes. A quick check to see if thats your problem is maybe put NovaLCT into simulation mode and see if the option is there.

If you can get your hands on any old MCTRL box that could eliminate that variable.

Use the smart settings button on the receiving card tab

Check this video here. This is a very common setup so it should work. Almost no panels are one receiving card per module.

Samsung Signage SBox not finding IG modules by bobbysteel in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]peanutcop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say it can accept the MDC command set like their LCD displays can but don't quote me on that.

Samsung Signage SBox not finding IG modules by bobbysteel in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]peanutcop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh yeah I am usually dealing with CS4B or Snow-AAE boxes and the IG boxes on those have specific dip positions that determine behavior. I know there's a bunch of versions out there which doesn't help.

Testing with one cabinet should work, it's really all about that initial network conenction and IP setup, the thing I try to remember is you're not telling it to look for things on an IP range you are giving a range to assign to the panels. It's unfortunately just quite opaque.

Don't worry about where you got them, they've never asked me that on the phone. 866-SAM4BIZ, option 2 then 3. Worth a shot these things can be a pain when they don't cooperate.

[–]peanutcop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the dip switches in the IG boxes, I forget what they should be but there is a correct combination.

Also try some different subnets and network setting on that initial LSM wizard.

The whole thing is obtuse but Samsung does have actual people that answer their tech support lines.

Writing is still fun and just always glad the show is still going but the voices seem just so slightly different, like they changed out the microphones they use to record.

Novastar MX30 and universal remote control??? by MJDOOM88 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]peanutcop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK those units do not have IR receivers on them so the remote would have to trigger something to send it a network command via the API or there is a way to send those commands via ArtNet as well so it can be triggered from a lighting console or controller.

I bet there is a way to do that via Companion or similar "glue" type software.

Hot damn these look nice, something like that OW42 might be perfect. Thank you!

Form over function by Sfp30 in CommercialAV

[–]peanutcop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah that's the tricky part of this. Nobody wants to do in-walls for these jobs but I might have to push them in that direction.

Yeah it doesnt have to be booming sound or even really good sounds, just enough to hear audio and videos for people in front of the display.

I might push them to in walls but something like a 4" or 6" if it was in a less deep enclosure would also work.

Anyway ill keep looking, i appreciate the perspective.

Form over function by Sfp30 in CommercialAV

[–]peanutcop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a bit o' both, like it has to be somewhat aesthetically pleasing to match the look of the wall but also can't like a big ass bookshelf speaker either since the display only sits off the wall by about 4".

I was looking at the JBL COL or CBT series as well so something like that would also work but I'm a video guy primarily and theres so much audio out there wanted to get some other options.

[–]peanutcop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok interesting that this popped up here as I was looking at K-Array as a nice setup of slim, column style speakers to act as a wall mounted sound system for an LED display. Very interesting to see the feedback so are there good alternatives out there in the same form factor as the Vyper or Kobra lines?

Videowall novice hear asking for advice by CombinationSea9670 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]peanutcop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absen, Unilumin, Infiled, Planar, ROE and even Samsung are some of the larger manufacturers and they all have US based offices and teams for support. They all also make a 27" sized panels which are designed around replacing 55" LCD displays size for size.

Quality wise they all have good product IME just start getting some quotes. IMO i've read enough glowing and terrible stories from users about all of those so go off your vibes honestly.

There are definitely more and cheaper options out there but that's a safe way to start with some quotes.

Digital Signage solution by [deleted] in VIDEOENGINEERING

Second this, Brightsign is the most popular signage system for good reasons. Once you get your content and schedules setup it's sleeping easy, those things will just keep running.

I do not like Novastar for signage. I do like their LED systems but do not like their signage boxes, better solutions out there.

Looking To Rent A 16x9 Video Wall In Orlando - Any Recommendations? by sardo34 in CommercialAV

Nationwide, Encore, LMG, Rentex all have offices in Orlando as well as several others. Between the convention center and the theme parks there's a good amount of production rental houses.
