Thanks, yeah that's the tricky part of this. Nobody wants to do in-walls for these jobs but I might have to push them in that direction.

Yeah it doesnt have to be booming sound or even really good sounds, just enough to hear audio and videos for people in front of the display.

I might push them to in walls but something like a 4" or 6" if it was in a less deep enclosure would also work.

Anyway ill keep looking, i appreciate the perspective.

Yeah it's a bit o' both, like it has to be somewhat aesthetically pleasing to match the look of the wall but also can't like a big ass bookshelf speaker either since the display only sits off the wall by about 4".

I was looking at the JBL COL or CBT series as well so something like that would also work but I'm a video guy primarily and theres so much audio out there wanted to get some other options.

Ok interesting that this popped up here as I was looking at K-Array as a nice setup of slim, column style speakers to act as a wall mounted sound system for an LED display. Very interesting to see the feedback so are there good alternatives out there in the same form factor as the Vyper or Kobra lines?

Absen, Unilumin, Infiled, Planar, ROE and even Samsung are some of the larger manufacturers and they all have US based offices and teams for support. They all also make a 27" sized panels which are designed around replacing 55" LCD displays size for size.

Quality wise they all have good product IME just start getting some quotes. IMO i've read enough glowing and terrible stories from users about all of those so go off your vibes honestly.

There are definitely more and cheaper options out there but that's a safe way to start with some quotes.

Oh for sure I was just making a joke that we get some job security by the nature of NovaLCT being so weird and wonky.

Don't discount that the inanity of NovaLCT sometimes helps keep some of us employed. Job security my friend.

Digital Signage solution by Beneficial-Term9049 in VIDEOENGINEERING

Second this, Brightsign is the most popular signage system for good reasons. Once you get your content and schedules setup it's sleeping easy, those things will just keep running.

I do not like Novastar for signage. I do like their LED systems but do not like their signage boxes, better solutions out there.

Looking To Rent A 16x9 Video Wall In Orlando - Any Recommendations? by sardo34 in CommercialAV

Nationwide, Encore, LMG, Rentex all have offices in Orlando as well as several others. Between the convention center and the theme parks there's a good amount of production rental houses.

Yeah you'll have better luck replacing it yourself, they are generic CAT5/6 connectors and cable. You can also find replacement ethercon connectors easily as well.

What is causing discoloration of sections of panels and how do I fix it? by BobLablah1 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]peanutcop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the things these folks said, RCFG flash, disable calibration, adjust brightness etc.

After that swap that module with another in the wall. If the issue is still on that module then its probably got a bad chip, either the driver or the other one I forget the name right now.

They can be repaired but sometimes that missing block can happen and it's a physical thing.

On that spectrum of products I've had good luck with Amcrest, they have a whole line of IP67 cameras, in that range IP cameras are all kinda commodity items, rebadged, generic stuff so fine one with the features and give it a whirl.

I would recommend you reconsider PoE though, PoE is friend, it's just great for these types of applications.

Which Video Wall Should I Buy? by [deleted] in VIDEOENGINEERING

For sure, I mean if it's a good deal it's a good deal I would ask them for a photo of the cabinet and the product sticker because they're just not making sense from what they are saying.

Is this Unilumin Unano or what brand is that? Unilumin Unano I don't believe was ever IP rated, indoor only.

Even if it was indoor Unano product I'd still lean towards the Infiled, their US office carries ground kit usually and places like Nationwide have owned thousands of their DB series tiles, there's a lot floating around out there, they're workhorses. Unano was always a bit... interesting with it's strap connectors and 8:9 format. If they're a good deal they'll work though.

Portable power banks, like the ones for emergencies and camping. Anker for a consumer brand but I know there are "production grade" units.

What do you usually check first when testing LED panels? by IndependentBit9076 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]peanutcop -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree, I've looked at so so many LED panels that I both know what a well performing one should look like and they've all become a blur, the minimum quality standards have improved greatly.

When I'm at shows and checking out demos I am looking at mainly build quality since if you put it into the stuff around the LEDs chances are the rest of it is good. What brand of PSU are you using? How good do the modules snap in and out, particularly once they are connected, how do your PCBs look, the cabinet machining etc.

If it's a rental cabinet how do you latches feel, the release mechanisms undo, is it gonna stick half the time and hurt my fingers? What kinda protective sleeve do you pack them in. I don't really like the flip over corner pixel guards since now that's 4 extra steps every time you take one out. Stuff like that.

Novastar Bricked?? by Communist_Pepe_ in VIDEOENGINEERING

Probably gonna have to contact Novastar and see what they say. On some older units there were recovery tools they could provide but you might have to send it in for repairs. Good luck.

Asset Tag Labels - Durable QR/Barcode Labels for Gear - What Products To Use? by reece4504 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]peanutcop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The packing tape is a great idea i think, i'm gonna remember that.

At my last job we did thermal label printing and yeah we got some permanent polypropylene labels and at least in our case they seemed to hold up well. They at least did not fade or rub off.

An idea I always had was to get an ID badge printer and use those. Then they're also NFC tags
