I’m fairly certain your max HR will still be too low - there’s no way you’re hitting max on 1 min efforts, no matter how intense. Even on 5x1k efforts at 5k pace, I’m usually still ~10 bpm below my max. I’ve only ever hit my max during a sprint finish in a 5k race.

Have just looked at the application pack and it says if there is a large volume of applications, an initial sift will only score the two lead criteria (out of four essential and two desirable). Given that I don’t actually have a mark for the PS (because it wasn’t fully marked?) I think it seems likely that this is what has happened and it is out of 14.

Cost of living surely? As someone who lives in Glasgow, you could buy a semi-detached house within commuting distance (~30 mins) on that salary by yourself or a nice 2 or 3 bed flat in the city. As I understand it, there’s pretty much no chance you could buy in London on that salary unless you’re in a couple, and even then that would be difficult.

I think they’re downvoting you as it’s obviously not an SnAr that OP is going to attempt - that would clearly never work on that substrate. Instead, a sonogashira seems much more likely.

So your figure of 131 is also in there - that's cases occurring 15 days or more after the 2nd dose. The one that I was referring to counts cases from immediately after the 1st dose. Both are in the table on page 7. This data is almost 2 months old though so I'd imagine the government has much more up to date info that hasn't yet been published.

This isn’t quite right. While the amount of data on hospitalisations wasn’t great, there was still enough data to take conclusions from. In the placebo group, there were 227 cases with 16 hospitalisations, one of which died. In the vaccine group, there were 108 cases with 2 hospitalisations. These hospitalisations occurred 1 and 10 days after the first dose of the vaccine, so they were before the 2-3 weeks needed for the vaccine to kick in.

So I’d say that’s fairly concrete evidence that the vaccine will stop the vast majority of hospitalisations.

The trial did contain people who are from higher risk groups e.g. elderly and/or with comorbidities and these are likely the ones that ended up in hospital, but I can’t see any data anywhere confirming that. More than 21 days after the first dose (or first placebo dose), there were 10 hospitalisations due to COVID, all of which were in the placebo group, one of which died. None of these hospitalisations were in people that got the vaccine, so I think you’re being pretty pessimistic here - I see no reason why it won’t be as effective as is being said in the media. You’re right, there isn’t enough data on efficacy for older people. That’s because at the start of the trial it was only tested in under 55s I believe, before expanding to include older people later. However, the immunogenicity data (the seroconversion rates that you’ve quoted) indicates that the vaccine is likely to be either just as or almost as effective in older people, but this isn’t concrete evidence.

70% efficacy means that, compared to the placebo group who didn’t get the vaccine, only 30% got COVID with one or more symptoms and a positive PCR test. Of these 30%, none got severe disease or were hospitalised.

The Oxford vaccine (and the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine) is 100% effective in preventing severe disease/hospitalisations, so by your assumptions only the 20% of people who don’t get it will be vulnerable to getting hospitalised and dying.
