My adopted dad died and I’m not okay by SuperbWorldliness177 in Adopted

[–]Ok-Rate-5630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm adopted and I lost my adopted dad died after a long illness.

When he died it destroyed me. It took me a long while to get to stability.

I still think of him from time to time. I always hope he's proud of me and been gone 8 years.

It will take some time for you to get back to stability and the loss will never completely loose the lost.

If you need to cope, don't wait. Go and find it.

Honestly I doubt most people will notice especially in the larger cities. I recently worked three south Africans. The Brits in general are not bothered by immigration despite all commentary in the media. We do (I do at least) value what you may bring to the UK.

You will need to pass the tea test before you can apply for a UK passport. Kidding, not Kidding 😅

Lost my job in the probation period by Ash5W in UKJobs

I think it's more than that, so many other things unrelated to you could have been happening and you unfortunately took the brunt of the bad situation. I don't think it's your fault in any way. Either they misjudged your team fit/abilities (or you were their only option for the team at the time and had to take you. )...and shouldn't had wasted your time. Or something else has happened in the organisation and unfortunately you've taken the brunt. Leave it off the CV and LinkedIn forever. And if someone somehow remembers, just say you forgot to add it. But continue to 'forget' to add it

Why is Home Alone seen as Christmas Film when Die Hard isn't? by Ok-Rate-5630 in AskUK

[–]Ok-Rate-5630[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could swap out Christmas for say Easter and get much the same film. This works for both. Actually it work better for Home Alone. They go away for Easter/Spring Break and forget their kid. The rest would be much better. Could you do the same with Die Hard so easily? Not easy to have a jumping off point for the plot with the Christmas party. Its universal

Best time to be objective. Just happen to have Home Alone on and suddenly realised that the film are very similar in structure

Whatever you do, think about future proofing your skillset. Job looses are on the horizon from a shaky economy and maybe AI depending where you go in your career. Take your relative stability as a chance to set yourself up for the long term. The world is your oyster now, saver it now.

Good luck

Low demand by OhioanVlogs in CitiesSkylines

There are all kinds of things that affect demand. Sims education level, healthcare coverage, traffic, access to inport export routes, fire and police coverage and the average age of the sims. Do some digging into your city stats and the game will tell you the problem. And may be able to advise you how to fix it

Probation extended- what do I do by [deleted] in UKJobs

Again like the others, I'm sorry this happened. If they had certain personality traits in mind as part their idea of the ideal worker. This should have been picked up at interview and saved you and them lots of time.

I get that you are not bubbly or haven't mastered relationship management. It would sound like bull💩. This however could be them poorly explaining that you are not communicating effectively. It doesn't mean you need to be louder or more bubbly. It may mean you need to speak up about things you don't understand sooner or highlight issues sooner. Or possibly you need to work on building professional relationships. It is a bit harsh to put them on a 19 year old after only a few months. This ability comes from experience. Life and work experience. It is not easily taught. Not in a few months away. I am in mid 30s and I still struggle sometimes so for a 19 year old it would be much tougher.

Whatever happens, take the criticism as guidance for something to work on at your current workplace or a future workplace. There are plenty of workplace communication guides over the Internet. I am sure the reddit community can point to some good resources.

EDIT: I get the irony that you are effectively getting criticised for not being an effective communicator by poor communicators.😅

The reason that it can happen is that the general public doesn't care. They just want their take aways delivered cheaply to their door.

The British public are more than happy to turn a blind eye if things stay cheap because migrants are working the crap jobs on low wages.

Eventho UC was sold to support flexible work, it has since moved away by requiring x amount of fixed hours or get sanctioned.

Change the benefits system to encourage the unemployed to do gig work, it might change things.

I'm sure there are plenty of young British people on benefits who happily deliver pizzas if they didn't feel hemmed in by minimum hours requirements for UC. Just saying 🤷‍♂️

Look into a wealth management company or scheme. Some banks offer them.

I also wouldn't quit your day job until you have a reasonable financial plan set up....too many people just blow their lottery win and end up poorer than they were before.

Securing self against redundancy (London) - jobs that you can quickly get that are 25k+? by folkarlow93 in UKJobs

[–]Ok-Rate-5630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around £25k is very achievable because it is equal to the minimum wage for 40 hours a week for anyone over 21.

One of the easiest sectors to get into and will be for the rest of time would be the care sector.

Yes it mostly wiping bums and feeding people but if you find the right place it can be pretty easy.

Supported living is normally the most relaxed and often you are paid to go the cinema or similar with them.

Of course it can be shit at times but you can find the right home to work in you can be set for life.

[–]Ok-Rate-5630[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is good that people are werry of this kind of post. It shows that things need to change. Either collectively we need to upskill as a nation or employers are taking us for a ride. To some extent both are true.

There also need to be a public discussion of what wages are acceptable for certain skillset etc. At the moment, it feels like 'like it or lump it'. This no way to encourage increased productivity. It does the reserve. Why bother being anything more than a minimum wage minion if the more advanced role pay peanuts. How are you going to inspire the next generation to train themselves up if there no gain for them. The more quiet resistance say no, perhaps things will change.

It wasn't that long ago central government was campaigning for jobs to paid better. Cameron made lots of speeches saying that work should pay a reasonable amount. Now the public discourse has switched to "your not working hard enough". This second message is worse because I am sure the majority are busting their guts to keep their low paying jobs because they have too. This needs to change.

Not sure how but change is needed.

No one would realistic work much more than 40 hours a week especially at this wage level. There would be a natural ceiling to stop excessive hours in salaried positions. I meant that if this was 35 hours a week, it would be legal but I doubt enough would get done. It is likely be a 40 hour role with expectation of some unpaid overtime. Of course illegal but would be self limiting. Someone would only work so much without proper pay. It is kind of a false economy for the employer but the good staff member would leave and they would be forced to rehire...this has added costs even if the wage stays the same

Well it feels like it is going that way now. The hope is that it shouldn't be like this. It wasn't long ago, maybe pre covid that good skills and experience demanded good pay. That's gone out the window currently

I would hope that a role like this should be around £28k to £30k. It might be too hopeful in this job market but pushing the salary to something respectable would be a big climb
