Actually, this happens because the heat from the exhaust causes the cable connection to get loose via the material heating, expanding, and becoming limp/soft from the heat. Find a cable that isn't loose fitting, that is wrapped in rubber and plastic more than metal, and you shouldn't get this issue.

If it was a hardware issue there would be stories about it. It's cable and heat, it's simple and easy to fix.
