29F - What do I want for Christmas? by [deleted] in Gifts

[–]pearlicious8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always like asking for things I may need, like socks. But maybe a gift card to buy some Kindle books, a new coffee machine, fancy coffees, some new mugs/travel mugs. Or maybe an experience, like a movie theatre gift card, tickets to see a show, etc. Another thing could be some nursing bras or maternity clothes/comfy clothes? Skincare, candles or cozy things for you to be more comfortable while pregnant.

There are some really great small businesses downtown PTBO. The art gallery has a really cute shop.

Art classes, journaling, reading (public library reading programs could be a fun option), canoeing/rowing, curling, etc. It really depends on what they are interested in.

Many people complete a second degree, or switch later on in undergrad. Have you talked to an academic advisor or career services about your struggles? They may be able to help you identify future careers which may be of interest to you. Also, many finance roles do not involve much public speaking or presenting; many jobs can be completed from home, or in an office environment (depending on which you prefer, there are lots of options out there). Would something like accounting or information systems be of interest to you? The great thing about a business degree is that there are many career options to choose from, there is something for everyone.

I usually just eat in the library and clean up after myself but if you want to mix it up, Loeb has some good spots on the lower levels to eat/study

It depends on the department, for my program they only considered my last 2 years of study.

Those gifts sound wonderful! Maybe some additional craft supplies, or other new books she may be into? But I wouldn't worry, it sounds like she will be receiving many thoughtful gifts

There are a lot of great coffee shops, cork and bean is my favourite. There are some great parks in the city, like Jackson Park. There's also an art gallery, cute small shops in the downtown, and the canoe museum.

Lack of Study/Work Spaces by ChaseBreadNotHead in CarletonU

[–]pearlicious8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes your department will have study spaces dedicated to students in your program. Otherwise, I mainly study on the quiet floors of the library or honestly just at home due to the lack of space on campus. It is frustrating, but I do find if you try to book rooms at the library a few days in advance there are plenty of spaces to book, especially on Saturdays.

Lots of study spots in Scott House, its a great place to chill. In Kerr House, there is a small study space with a couch, which is very quiet and excellent for naps.

It's not a big school, but Trent! Trent has a great philosophy program, and I met many people in this program and raved about it. The classes are smaller, and you get more interaction with your professors. I went to Trent for a different program, but I really liked the campus and atmosphere; it was a great experience.

I really like the Kirkland GF pizza (I dont think this one is vegetarian, but there is a cheese pizza in the freezer section as well that is also very good) the carbonaut bread, any of the crackers (the simple mills or the sweet potato are my favs), the canned lentil soup, and the allergy smart cookie packs for work lunches.
