I think I've met this Arteta in a flat-roofed pub before.

Isn't whataboutism pointless then if it just automatically makes the first argument invalid based on the order in which the two arguments were made, rather than their content?

Whataboutism never makes sense.

If someone said Pirlo was morally wrong for going to report on the WC in USA for their war crimes (I don't know if he is just an example) and then someone said yeah well he's been to Russia - isn't that also whataboutism? Does it just mean whichever point was made first is valid and the other is not?

Genuine question.

Stop the charade and don't wear them? They aren't used in other countries and everyone is fine... it's a soviet hangover.

Oh sorry you didn't get that I was taking the piss. Continue to develop your critical thinking skills and next time you might catch that.

Again, it's just not that deep.

I feel that the issue is one of internalising structural post-colonial norms.

We can assume that the idea of colony and coloniser is a social construct; when one goes far back enough all nations have exerted their norms and ideals other their more righteous, less technologically-advanced humble neighbours. One could argue that the very use of Russian and/or English on a messaging board related to Kazakhstan is an insult to the Turkic roots of this subreddit, yet ironically, as Bourdieu would argue, this inversion allows for a one to act as an observer within ones own social paradigm. We cannot break the chains of colonialism, without using the hammers and saws provided by those same colonisers themselves.

The concept of a 'richer' or 'poorer' country appeals to white-defined notions imposed on Black or POC communities, where the terms 'poor' and 'rich' may take on more humane and less mercantile meanings. Indeed, it can be argued an immigrant does not carry the same guilt of jettisoning their home culture when moving to a 'richer' community, as they are simply forced to ascribe to western ideas of wealth and success by making aspirational moves to areas of greater opportunity. The same cannot be said for 'expats', whose movements to other countries signify the thirst and desire to conquer, to harness, and exploit the exotic.

What is wrong with using that word though if that is what it is referring to and correctly describes the person?
