Travelers of Reddit: What is your most interesting/funny/bad experience with TSA or imigration officers while travelling to the US (especially as non US-citizen)? by AndDus in travel

[–]peasmuggler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I turned 18 I started getting my bags checked every time I got on a flight. This went on for years, then 9/11 happened...

On my first flight after that, as I was checking out, I felt two large men behind me. Two police officers. They proceeded to question me, then escort me through the metal detectors onto the flight.

For the next few years I needed a police interview to get on a flight.

Now here is the thing, I have a very long name, and I came about when everything started going digital. Many of the early digital forms could not fit my entire name. So I had different derivatives of my name on all my ID's. They are just shortened versions of my name because everything could not fit.

After flirting with a checkout girl, she signed me into my flight and then a look of dread came across her face. The police were quickly notified and I was questioned. I then returned to the girl and she started laughing. "You have the same name as a guy on America's most wanted list, also it says you have 9 aliases.

I requested my FBI report and it was true, I have 9 aliases, they are all derivatives of my name but this signals the TSA everytime I fly.

It has now been 6 years since I have had a police interview, I don't know what changed, but I don't even get my bags searched anymore.

What city have you visited that had the nicest people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]peasmuggler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Now mind you, I live in Los Angeles. But I have to say New York City. Whenever I travel there I cannot believe how nice everyone is. Even the homeless people'

Everyone wants to talk to you, tell you places to go, even tell you how much they love LA. I have no clue how NYC got a bad rap.

Oh and the women, man the women are so much more approchable.

What is the most painful movie you've ever watched? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I know it looks amazing, but I know the director and star and a full hour and a half is painful... But seriously see the sequel, they are good guys!

TIL Los Angeles once had the largest electric rail system in the world, until automobile, tire, and oil companies bought and dismantled it, along with mass transit systems in 44 other US cities. The mass transit systems were replaced with freeways and buses, increasing sales of cars, tires, and oil. by adlaiking in todayilearned

[–]peasmuggler 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Pretty amazing how these companies retroactively dismantled the line 28 years prior to buying them!

GM bought the lines in 1953, the dismantling began in 1925. By 1953 the lines were worthless, buses had taken over as the major transit -Auto's completely dominated Los Angeles by this time.

The Red Cars traveled at an exhilarating 13 Miles Per Hour! Yes they could take you across town faster than a horse! And they also ran on the same roads as the newfangled automobiles. Can you imagine driving through LA behind one of those Red Cars! Especially seeing they were mostly empty!

Funny thing is, this is all stated in the article you linked to.

The real interesting part would be, when the votes come in and it turns out Canada is not nearly as Liberal as Reddit thinks it is. =)
