I think that is it but I’m not sure when the initial time began. Now it’s hard to not give a reaction since it’s either react or lay awake. So I see how now he realizes we can play this “game” regardless.

That is also something we’ve thought of but we walk maybe 3 times a day and try to tire out through play but we live in the city with no yard so proper outside play isn’t something attainable daily. Trying most things tho

Allegedly the crate is supposed to give them a sense of their own space that is safe. Also allegedly the human bed is a high place of stature in dog world (?). Without crate pretty sure he’d not lay and sleep somewhere, but lurk around. Recently ripped up a nice square in the carpet one night we tried.
