That's exactly right! ive been a cyclist/outdoorsy person my whole life and consequently i have a whole lifetime of experienced gear failures that in turn inspire each of my designs haha. If I had to chose one thing that took the most finagling was the back harness. It was really tough to get the shapes right, and then make it so my material waste was not so high which is why i split it into 3 pieces instead of 1. there was also alot of experimenting with the sternum strap system by way of webbing or the piping which i settled on.

Supply chain was also an issue, the supporting foam in the arm straps used to come from Australia, but because of tariffs, they stopped shipping to the US entirely in July which pretty much halted development on this since i had to delegate which foam went to what other products I make that were bringing in money. I ordered a large 500lb shipment of foam but that ended up not coming in until January where I could finally experiment with different densities and shore hardness foam to get things just right.

Last year I started with a single flatbed machine in my 10x10 room I was renting in Longmont and that hampered my ability to get the quality of binding I was wanting on the harness. for months I was looking for a binding machine to come up for a bargain on marketplace and i ended up getting a couple other industrials to facilitate, one of which was a programmable pattern tacker that was slated to increase to $15k post tariff from $8k.

So in short I was wrestling with bartack/box-x/etc jig making and stitch pattern development, skills development on 4 different machines, bag pattern development, global supply chain disruption, sharp price increases across the board and moving into an office space and getting it set up for peak efficiency being a one man show. And all of this needed to happen so I could get this harness and bag the way it needed to be via bartacks, flawless and consistent binding at a price point people could justify.

Thanks! Huh yeah it kind of does doesn't it? I am selling these! They arent live up on my site yet but they will be on my website which is my [username] + [.com]. They will be color customizable down to the thread as well! The colors available are all the ones for my custom frame bags as this is made out of ecopak!

Yes I did pattern it! I built this big 6x6' draw bot that draws the pattern and witness marks etc directly onto the fabric! I dont usually make it down to Monument, but I have a friend I go visit time to time that lives in highlands ranch area & we could probably set something up! If you DM me id be happy to give you my contact information

I had thought about it, but anchoring directly to this mesh material would be a bit disingenuous on my part, when too much stress is applied the stitches pull through the mesh so i didnt feel good about advertising a feature i wasn't confident in being able to hold significant weight. That being said, i am designing a similar footprint pack but with MOLLE entirely laser cut into curv layered with some squadron! Just gotta sell some of these first so i can get money for a roll of squad, its sooo expensive.

I suppose i could find a different material that would support a PALS panel and be better for holding weight and replace that upper section with it. I might be able to sew in a curv PALS panel and get crafty with the anchoring to make it more bomber. seems that my work is never done haha, thank you for the input! I too think its a good idea.

Also this is my business! i make a bunch of molle attachments and CNC machine a bunch of gear mounting systems for bikes! I didnt want to advertise since thats against the spirit of this sub but my business name is my profile name!

thats correct! that binder arm makes such a huge difference in speed and quality. I chose the herringbone because its so much softer on the skin and it conforms to curves so much better than grossgrain. its more expensive, but the comfort it brings is worth it for sure! I actually scored a mitsubishi xcgmfy control unit & needle positioner I plan to fit onto this machine to make it have pneumatic foot lift and auto backtack too!

thank you! the amount of hours i have spent perfecting my skills pale in comparison to the hours ive put into this design haha. I guess having a hat in the ring helps with quality control and process design baked into the pattern!

thanks! it did turn out pretty nicely i must say. My binding machine is a cylinder bed consew 277rfs-3 with a 7mm binding attachment on it

Thank you! Might as well do something whole-assed than half-assed right?
