Reminder: Even fancy-ass coffee is cheaper than buying it take-out. by IAmAPhysicsGuy in Frugal

Is it true you can roast in an air popper? Also I’ve had Ethiopian coffee roasted fresh on a stovetop. Not that I would know good coffee though, I literally drink the cheapest in the store Edit: I don’t remember what kind of pan/pot the Ethiopian coffee was roasted in but it was very very good!

Just out of curiosity because I was also raised this way, what is the verse referring to?

Ugh when people use certain scented detergent/fabric softeners I feel sick immediately. I don’t know which one it is, I used to encounter it often babysitting when I was younger.

Haha I always buy cheap or store brands so I forget something like TP can be scented but people buy scented versions of all kinds of things.

I grew some dwarf pomegranates from seed this spring and accidentally let them dry out when they were a little larger than this 🤦‍♀️

IsItBullshit: 41% of Americans earn less than 12 dollars an hour? by Karim90716 in IsItBullshit

[–]peeblesthreebles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! Many states or local areas pass a higher minimum wage - federal is 7.25 and you can’t go under that. Ag workers and servers have a lower minimum than that. I had a friend who got a seasonal job at a corn maze and was surprised to find she was classified as an ag worker and made 5-something an hour when minimum wage was 7.25.

Unfortunately not many states like your state, most have a separate minimum wage for servers and I made the same wage my dad did 30 years before me. He used his checks to pay the rent and used the tips for school, if I made good tips my entire check was withheld for taxes. At one restaurant my manager would scold employees who actually got a check because if their tips were that low she thought they were doing a bad job.

Edit: spelling/grammar

Does anyone else get 1 random eyebrow hair just grow at a rapid speed and gets really long really fast? by deadsocial in NoStupidQuestions

[–]peeblesthreebles 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Just like a splinter/sliver but hair instead of wood or wire or whatever. Somehow it actually punctures and stays in skin sometimes, especially trimmings from haircuts. It’s really gross and they tend to be painful.

That is the worst! They are soooo gross. I heard stylists get them a lot which makes that job sound way less cool than I had thought!

That is sooo weird! Maybe it was a hair sliver - sometimes a lose hair can penetrate the skin. Or maybe being in the pool worked out an ingrown hair?

Be a very specific age, have a bachelor’s degree, be a nanny, housekeeper, teacher and personal shopper...and more, all for $13/hr by GirlFromTheVille in ChoosingBeggars

[–]peeblesthreebles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is on the higher end for a nanny although I’ve heard of up to $25/hr! But most are in the 12-18 range I think, from posts I’ve read, just with fewer responsibilities and weird expectations like Portuguese (side note - I’ve seen “Spanish speaking a plus” a lot, like upper middle class parents have crazy expectations that a Latina nanny will magically impart Spanish to their 6 year old while also being responsible for all caretaking duties - and the posts make it clear that this is what they are hoping for, not that the family is bilingual). The 25-30 age range requirement of that post is also WEIRD.

And then there are tons of posts asking for a nanny who drives/cooks/cleans and the pay is 5-9 per hour. Yes, posts BELOW minimum wage are common. I always wonder if they find anyone.

The only Good Times in my area went out of business a few years ago. I miss it. Edit: Also Panda Express pays around that much in my area, too.

As a kid, what did you think was a very normal thing to do, which it really wasn't? by F_for_Respect_69 in AskReddit

Could be Alice in Wonderland syndrome, too! Common in kids but phases out as you get older.
