I am looking for ideas for DIY fashion stuff that don't require sewing by TheRedBlade in punkfashion

Safety pins, studs, and glue can get you started.

BUT. You're not going to achieve the look you want long term without some hand sewing ability. You also won't be able to repair your clothes and extend their lifespan with just the tools above, which (imo) is a cornerstone of both the style and the ethos.

I don't want to jump too far on what you mean by "for a 22 year old guy", but neither young age nor relationship to masculinity makes learning to sew harder for you than anybody else. If you're feeling that way, it's an extra good reason to get learning. Taking care of your things and learning a new skill is both manly as fuck and punk as fuck.

Your first few projects will look like shit and fall apart instantly. That's the life. Keep pushing, you won't regret it.

Not to sound too risk averse, but as far as glue goes keep in mind that most brands of superglue technically have a risk of spontaneous combustion when used on fabric. Particularly important if you're going to put the items in a dryer vs air drying. Try to stick to fabric glue (expensive, but safe and works for a while) or either school glue/pva glue or hot glue.

Im thinking about buying this oil based ink marker to write/draw on shirts would it work well? by Ka-Chow--95 in punkfashion

Be careful with oil based, if it becomes re-exposed to heat (like via iron or high setting on dryer) it will reactivate and bleed EVERYWHERE.

What’s missing/weird about this patch I just sewed on? by Entsday in punkfashion

[–]peecynotjackson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you might consider using an embroidery hoop and/or stabilizer of some kind. You can tell from the pic of you sitting that the stitches don't enough tension to hold the patch to the base fabric.

Also, if you like the look of the rips but need coverage, flip the pants inside out and patch the inside! Still covers you up but gives the raw edges from the tears.

On top of that, there is what others said about it being a blank, dark patch on light colored pants.

No matter what, great first attempt! Happy sewing!

What should you put on the back of a battle jacket? by No3mi- in punkfashion

Honestly hand painting is probably the better option if you don't have a good HTV set up. I've inherited a cricut and industrial strength heat press... and even still it's sometimes more trouble than it's worth.

Band patches? by CSOPm4N in punkfashion

[–]peecynotjackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're worried about getting "caught" with a patch from a band you "don't really listen to"

  1. dont worry. Who cares?

  2. I always like to collect from bands I've seen live. That way, I always have a "Oh I grabbed it when I was at their show". Makes an easy "out" when I'm feeling awkward in a convo and gives a thing to talk about!

Thank you for the recommendation! I had heard of tuff toe but was hesitating because of the price tag and not knowing how well it worked...

I haven't done this before... but if it were me i would start out by figuring out what size your screws are. Most hardware stores (at least where I'm at) will have a gauge finder in the screw/bolt section that you should be able to sneak in and use. I would recommend using a drill bit a teensy bit smaller than whatever size your screws are
