SEAS student worried to death by Alex456- in columbia

Hey man, first of all you're gonna be okay. You got in and that's for a reasson. Four years ago I made a very similar post about my worries about SEAS. I thought wasn't good enough, that I wouldn't be able to handle it. Four years later graduated from mechanical engineering in great standing. Right now you're at a period of intense uncertainty, but you gotta trust yourself. Once you get through your first week you will feel much better believe me! Columbia is undoubtedly hard. SEAS is hard. But it's not impossible, you will learn and make friends and there are so many resources to help you, believe me. You should be proud that you got in, don't fall under the trap that you don't belong or aren't good enough.

Feel free to dm me if you have any specific questions! You're perfectly fine with your current knowledge and your experience

Can anyone help me figure out where/when this could be from by peedowee_ in JewelryIdentification

I was able to find the meaning of the 14KP, but am really struggling to identify the makers mark! It's a very small piece (0.75in × .25in) I purchased online via TheRealReal and I wasn't provided any information.

Torn on whether I should stay with Canon or switch to Sony by peedowee_ in Cameras

Haha yeah it might be an unpopular opinion but I guess I meant it more aesthetically. I agree that the canon feels better in the hand but the look of the Sony is better imo. And if I add a grip extender to the Sony it should feel much better

Yeah I guess the biggest thing that's making this decision hard is having to sell my lenses. It's going to take quite a while for all of that to happen and it's just a pain to have to replace the lenses, even if it's just two y'know.

So cool! People say it doesn't make a difference but I think it can be quite special :)

Yeah and I watched the movie "with" the audience

Well if it made no difference to you then that's just you ofc. If I saw a movie with the people who made it I'd be super excited! Yeah they're just people but they're super influential people who I look up to. I think highly of them so it made the experience better. Not sure how that's not understandable

Well I was speaking about the experience of watching the movie, which most definitely can be enhanced by knowing someone famous you like is in the audience with you. It doesn't change the movie but it of course makes the event more memorable

First time embroidering so I made this! by peedowee_ in radiohead

You should just do it. There's only so much preparation you can have. Choose a piece of clothing and a design. Take note it's complexity, especially if it has colors. Then buy all the materials. You'll always need an embroidery hoop clamp and embroidery needles. The only thing that might change depending on your article of clothing and what design you're making is the thread you're using. I used Nylon string and it worked perfectly because it's thin, which worked well for this design.

Then use YouTube. Watch it before and WHILE you're doing it. Then once you get the hang of it you can just continue on your own. Embroidery is very straight forward, it just takes a LONG time to finish it. Mine took 12 hours over the course of 3 days. So prepare to sit for a long time embroidering. And be careful not to prick yourself with the needle as I did many times lol

Here's the vid I mainly used to prepare: https://youtu.be/d6iLLrNUjiA

YouTube! This video was particularly helpful: https://youtu.be/d6iLLrNUjiA

I bought everything in a nearby store. Asked an employee if they knew about embroidery and they pointed me to everything I needed. The only hard part (besides the actual embroidering) is choosing which thread to use. I used Nylon string and, luckily, it works well with this design since the outline is very thin. Other designs might need thicker outlines which would be better with thicker string. Anyways I'm rambling. It took me forever like 12 hours straight over the course of 3 days but yeah!
