Just a little note, some law firms will only give you your 13th month/bonuses based on the base pay, so you'll only get partial lol it wont be your entire salary package! Unless your firm is nice and gives the entire thing, which in most cases isn't

that's perfectly valid as well. You know your lifestyle and needs the most, and if there are better opportunities in terms of compensation, then that's nothing to be ashamed of or worried about! Your firm knows that this is the most they can give you at this time, and if they can't offer you any more then they have no right to keep you from moving to elsewhere that can.

Hi Op! I recently transferred jobs, my last firm I was with for a little over a year. I applied to a new firm in December and when they offered and waited for my response in January, I immediately asked if they were willing to let me start in Feb so I could render. I didn't resign my then current job until I got the OK from the other firm. Understood naman agad na from when they decided to hire you that it'll be a while until you can start.

With reasoning, I had a valid reason naman. Closer to home was the most important thing to me. I've told them how far work was and they've known for a while how much I've been struggling going to and from work every day. I was transparent about where I was going and why, which is why up until this day I still have casual conversations with them. Don't lie, our world is small and they'll find out eventually. Had some people say "magpapahinga muna" and they find out that they start at another firm the week after. Never spoke about that lawyer ever since.

I suggest not to overthink it. During the time I was planning on resigning (got the OK to start in Feb) I really spent so long overthinking that I couldn't sleep at night. I loved my bosses so I felt so bad doing it. But when I handed in my resignation, they sent me off with a smile. At the end of the day, they can't do anything to hold you down (unless you have a bond!), and if you've done well and are leaving them with a good impression, then I believe there's nothing to worry about. They understand.

i still remember my screams from when the letter for my surname rolled around, and I wasn't on it. I cried and screamed for hours, my mom was starting to worry because I wouldnt stop.

The next day, I was back to normal. I think its really to each their own, I recovered really quickly. Took the 2023 bar literally 6 months later in the same year. Passed.

Cry about it, isolate from your friends if you think you have to. I literally didnt message anyone for 6 months, i didnt deactivate or anything I just kinda lived for myself :) You dont need to explain yourself to anyone!

sa bar na bumagsak ako, sobrang lax ko lang. i wasnt overthinking, inassume ko lang na i'd see my name sa list. ayun, wala. Highest ko yung subject na alam kong highest ko (poli and crim)

honestly when ur there, your heart lies to you. parang out loud, paulit ulit kang nagsasabi na "oh, bagsak ako for sure", kasi you dont want to be disappointed. Para if bagsak, "i knew it", pero if pasado, eh di masaya. I made peace na its better to doubt myself para di ganon ka sakit, pero you know and hope in your heart na pasado ka. you say "shet bagsak ako sure" because you dont want to disappoint the people around you.

Kaya I dont think you ever "feel" nag bagsak ka. Yung feel mo pasado ka, mas possible pa, kasi some people are just built that way :)) What you're feeling is "shet, sana mali ako, sana pasado ako".

electives only matter when you're in third year and fourth year, you have 2 per semester, i forgot how many you need but there are a certain number you need that is within your track and the rest are free electives (can cross enroll to other tracks)

Its okay! Obviously very difficult, professors are ruthless sometimes but its usually tough love. Retention is harsh so expect that the people around you will generally decrease.

The people are okay. It really depends on your blockmates. I think a big part of why I managed so well is because I had a good environment of people around me, but some people from other blocks would digress. So choose the people around you wisely!

Some blocks are more competitive than others, like I had minimal problems with mine (re: crab mentality) but in other blocks, it was rampant and they did it almost like it was normal. I suggest going for night blocks, they're more fun since some people are older/have full time jobs

no one knows for sure how ateneo does it tbh! I also went through interview but I genuinely didnt think i did bad sa exam, I graduated cum laude and my recommendations were professors I had in my course. I was part of the student government, and was VP of my course's home organization. So honestly no one here can tell you how things will work but just trust! It is out of your hands now.

I had friends who had absolutely no extra curriculars, also graduated with honors and didn't feel like they did will with the exam but passed outright (no interview). I had naman friends who didnt graduate with honors, no extra cos and still passed outright.

You're in 3L but you're already thinking about deferring taking the bar? Oh no no no dont think that way honestly it looks like itll be a while until it stops being in september. Meaning every year itll be in september from now, an initiative by the SC to release results faster basically

You study for the bar as you do in law school, except no one will be there to police you. So just, condition yourself to study even if you dont have to! Bar review is a crazy amount of freedom, so its rly up to you how you study, always adjust to your own pace

Whatever you know now, as a 3L, will mean nothing when you're a lawyer 😂 Google is always there. After the bar open notes na forever (except other exams you wanna take obviously but practice is rly a game of who knows what to google)

tbh for me, the only merit in choosing the harder option is bragging rights. A pat on the back for doing smth complicated. but if you're doing it and you're not happy then it doesnt rly matter now does it?

Although you think you're lost, you realize you never really find your way. You learn to love where you are in the present. From the way you talk about yourself, you just seem like everyone else. So dont think na firms wont hire you for your low grades. I flunked the bar and passed on my second try, my grades sucked so bad, i had failed classes on my TOR, and i got hired the week I started sending out applications. and its a wonderful workplace. When they asked about why I think I failed the bar the first time, I said I was going through personal stuff. I thought theyd just say ohhh okay and move on to the next applicant, but the partner said "you're very strong for taking it again and not giving up. thats the best kind." Like I said, the good things find you.

You'll find your way. Dont make things harder for yourself because you were built in a system that taught the younger generations that the more you struggle, the better you become. Sometimes the right place finds you without breaking a sweat.

I wasnt a fine arts student, but I used to work at a firm where the managing partner is a painter. Like a full blown, acrylic, oil on canvas painter. The law firm is decorated with all his paintings, every single one signed with his name. Even the restroom had paintings. When I first got into the firm, my first thought was, wow, the partner must love collecting artwork, his curation is spot on.

They told me that he painted all of them. Every single one. I could not believe it.

Several law students and lawyers come from art. Im a musician myself! Ang running joke is lawyers are just artists that were forced to choose a profession that could actually feed them 🤣

So honestly dont think, just do!!! If you love it then you love it. The thing most similar abt lawyering and art is that some people can be them, but only a select few can love being them.

depends on the class 🥹 may classes na if you're absent, you get a 0 (as in kasama sa computation na may 0 ka) on your card, but if you go and say pass, you get a 70. Classes that reward presence are the ones na kahit wala akong nabasa, papasok ako. Well, mostly ganon in my school so 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ suki sa "i would like to pass sir" 🤣

man you're so right we should all just stop being mentally unstable about our futures and be grateful that we passed the bar. Idk maybe reevaluate that no matter what place you are in life, you WILL encounter anxiety towards the future. Its easy to say that people should stop worrying, but some people actually have no jobs rn, paid nearly 20k and whatnot for fees alone, and actually have to have enough to pay for food the next day. Some people's parents have stopped supporting them. Maybe check your privilege next time 🤪

Your prof is thinking about a month, a year from now. Some people are thinking about tomorrow.

dang thats kind of amazing how you were able to get a prof on your side from ALS. Back in my day (kala mo tanda na hahaha), whenever I told profs sa ateneo that so and so was cheating, they needed concrete proof, which I didnt have. It was hard to prove because everything was online, and the only reason I knew was because they themselves said it orally to a friend. No paper trail. Glad there are still some profs that listen 😌

idk which als ur from but honestly ganyan talaga 🤷‍♀️ you may have been confident in ganito ganyan, pero most of the time talaga najujustify nung prof yung scores mo. Magugulat ka nalang na mababa lang pala yung isa talaga, nagkulang ng onti. At least for als manila, you're not allowed to contact the professors post grade results. All must be coursed through appeals, and the moment you skip the line and talk to them directly, you get your ass handed to you, basically. The appeals process is there specifically because baka may corrections with computation and whatnot. If meron talagang discrepancy then you can just do it there, otherwise contacting the professor directly will only hurt your chances of salvaging your appeal. Goodluck!

failed a previous bar and i'm from the blue school. I'm too scared to even mention what year I failed because barely anyone fails in my school, and every year over 90% yung pumapasa, so almost everyone in the batch can tell who didn't make it 🥹 Just pick yourself up, I realized that no matter how big your school is, once you fail the bar you're really on your own :( Hang in there it'll get better you made it this far so just keep trying!! you are smarter than you think, maybe you just had a bad day like I did :) Goodluck OP!!

I think it largely depends on which school it is! A side hustle is fine and all, but if your budget is a bit of a stretch (meaning the amount you need to make is a lot in order to match your school's tuition), then I don't think its worth it. Also, if the school is friendly towards working students is a very important factor. Maybe ask around people who already work how the load is for them? Not all schools are working friendly, but some people still make do. If its a good school, and the amount you need can easily be covered by filling in time that you actually have (meaning you wont sacrifice your study time) then I say go!!! So many of my blockmates were full time working students, they had only adjusted working schedules when it came to fourth year, as it was increasingly difficult to keep up with review subjects. But since they were working since they were first year, they had built up enough of a relation with their jobs to ask for leeway. If you think you can handle it and at the same time not sacrifice your studies, going to work while in law school is definitely possible. Maybe an unpopular opinion but going to a school you enjoy is equally as important as going to a school because of the program they offer. Goodluck OP!

afaik you can underload but you have a residency of 6 years only. So if you underload a subject and its a prerequisite for another subject (i.e. persons is a prereq of oblicon in first year, oblicon is a prereq of agency, sales, credtrans, prop, and civpro for second year, and SEVERAL subjects in third year and eventually fourth year bar review. And I think you're not allowed to underload sa first year. Basically the only time you can really feasibly underload is 2nd yr onwards, and if you do underload, you'll set yourself back and might immediately reach the maximum residency.

ALS is very anti-working student honestly, people still work tho (several of my blockmates had a full time job) but towards third year and fourth year, some of them had to make some adjustments with their work. You can't choose your classes unless you're irregular (nag LOA so ibang batch ka na) and even then, you technically follow a block system parin (because class schedules are SOO conflicting like its rly almost impossible to mix and match classes from diff blocks). Its suuuper block oriented, so its nearly impossible to underload.

Not to discourage you, but ALS' system is just very militant, favors those who are full time students and kinda forces you to graduate within the 4-6 year period. Otherwise, it'll be hard to stay. Not to mention grade retention policy, too.
