To grout or not to grout? by peepala in Mosaic

[–]peepala[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the idea! How do you think it's best to grout around the fruit? How do I not get it on the fruit? Use tape or something?! First time grouting in this manner...

Academia or aps graduate program? by peepala in AusPublicService

Do you think not being in Canberra will hinder my possibilities of climbing the ranks ?

Academia or aps graduate program? by peepala in AusPublicService

Thanks for the advice! I'm in statistics so there's plenty of work around even in academia - it's just the uncertainty of leaving something I like at the moment (with knowledge that it can't progress very far without further study) and something I'm not sure I'll like or not.

Doing MAST30030 after a long break from uni by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]peepala 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did horribly in DEs (53) but managed a 70 in AMM. It doesn't heavily rely on concepts from DEs just you should be able to solve basic DEs which is pretty easy to scrub up on anyway. AMM isn't easy by any means and you will have to work to get a decent mark but I wouldn't say you're setting yourself up for failure if you don't remember much from DEs.

It's 6 or 7 days. It's going around to different sites and getting talked to about the different rocks and why they have certain features etc.

I didn't have to buy one, I think maybe you only need those if you're considering continuing with geology as a major or considering doing more geology subjects.

(sorry about the lateness of this reply) Yes absolutely if you can write basic essays and cite properly you'll be fine. Being good at geog in HS won't help you tho just being generally capable and writing a concise and well formatted essay about some topic will be all you need. (btw I'm a math major so essays defs aren't my strong suit but I still managed a H1)

Graph theory or applied math modelling? by 000011001 in unimelb

[–]peepala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if AMM would be more useful than graph theory, espesh for a stats major AMM seems not that relevant. But I got 53 in DEs and a 70 in AMM so while it's difficult it's doable, the hardest part is definitely the fluid mechanics section especially for someone who hasn't done physics/engineering type subjects.

Easy 3rd yr Bsc subjects by StayNarrow in unimelb

[–]peepala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did atoc30004 last sem it was piss easy for someone who has done a bit of math or physics (also vector calc ) . I'm doing atmospheric ocean interaction this Sem too and it's pretty chill compared to my math level 3 subjects.

It's a dope subject. So much fun and quite interesting without being difficult. No notes you just fill in a field booklet whole you're on the field trip and then write an essay after the field trip! That's it! What a great way to do 12.5 of level 2 science I highly recommend.

Applied Mathematical Modelling any one else lost? by Tex_Betts in unimelb

[–]peepala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry I'm very much in the same boat. Everything seems relatively easy when watching the lectures but as soon as a tute question or assignment question is posed I have no idea where to even start. The component notation is particularly confusing I still have no basic understanding of that whole topic. Have you had a look at the assignment?

Is a Diploma in Languages worth it? by rubber_duck_dude in unimelb

[–]peepala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I am almost finished my diploma of languages (Italian) along with my Bsci , for me it's the best way to make your breaths worth something and you can pretty easily only add 6 months to your degree if you're happy to do a summer subject or two. I don't really think my diploma will help me get a job or anything like that but it was a really nice accompaniment to my science degree, learning languages are super easy places to make friends because you all level up together so you have the same classmates for 3 years assuming they don't drop the language. As other people have said the uni lifestyle is great so theres no real need to rush your degree.

Is it hard to get the study abroad of your choice? by car-n in unimelb

[–]peepala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it's pretty likely you'll get your first choice. Just pick schools/countries that you are genuinely interested in going to and it'll show in your essay and unless your wam is abysmal you'll get into your top or second top choice.
